Let's hear some good stories about improvement, something every runner aims for.
I would love it if things were like this today:
When I first started running (age 12), I just ran the same 1 mile loop 3-4 times as fast as possible training for a 5 mile turkey trot. I barely managed sub-8:00 pace at the race.
After, I went back and kept doing 5 miles all-out regularly without anything else. No warmup, speed, long runs, just 5 all-out infrequently. 37-something became 35:00 became 33 became 32 and finally I ran 31-low at another road race.
So almost 9:00 off a 5 mile time in about 6-7 months.
Of course, now I've not run a Pr in ages (and I'm not even 30) so it sure would be nice to have those big improvements again.
