1500m: Hocker doesn't have the olympic standard. As for world ranking, they were last updated June 8th. He is the 7th American on the list, with the top 3 of those 7 having the Olympic standard already. Unless he just zips past everyone which is basically impossible, he HAS to place top 3 AND run the standard to make the team. Tall task for a trials race that typically isn't fast.
5000m: Hocker doesn't have the standard. As for world ranking (again last updated June 8th) he is 9th American on the rankings, with 5 having the standard. 5000m is much deeper for those with the standard. It'll be a tall task and again has to run the standard and place top 3.
Correct me if I'm wrong about this and how the new system is, but as far as I know this is his situation. There is nothing wrong with him or Teare not making it they are the future anyway.
