As a counter to the other thread, lets give props to those that showed some serious stones when it counted. I'll start it:
1. Abebe Bikila. Two marathon golds...one of them barefoot over cobblestones. Got that? 26.2 freakin' miles BAREFOOT OVER COBBLESTONES. 'Nuff said.
2. Viren. WR and gold after falling, plus three other golds.
3. Coe. Only double gold ever at 1500.
4. Joanie. Taking the lead at three miles in the marathon. In the heat. After winning the Trials 17 days after having her knee scoped.
5. Keino in '68. Silver medal in the 5000-metre event despite an acute gallbladder infection. Gold at 1500 in what may well be the best performance at distance 800 and up in the Olympics '72 gold steeplechase, and also won a silver medal in the 1500-metre race.
