When did NCAA guys start regularly running 3:34-5s without rabbits? Crazy.
You now run 3:40 and you finish in the back half of the regional.

Jack Salisbury continues to impress. 4:04 high schooler who entered this season with PRs of 3:44 and 4:03 (so basically no improvement) has now run 1:49, 3:37, 3:56, and 13:50 (all big PBs) and qualified for his first NCAAs as well as the Olympic Trials.
Heat 1 was no slouch either. Two 3:39 guys outside auto qualifying, Suliman and Garcia Romo both 3:38 with a 56 close. Dolan of Villanova and Hamlin of Butler are both 3:38 guys and neither made it through. It's not even like they ran horribly either (3:40 and 3:42). Just a strong year.

Salisbury > Hunter
And it’s hilarious
His 5k is a few seconds faster than Salisbury.
I saw rabbits on my runs yesterday and today. I never see them in my own neighborhood, as I think the foxes eat them all.

Salisbury is better at the 1500.
In my (irrelevant) opinion
I'm convinced that with the mix of Kipsang being unafraid, 3 fast contenders (Kipsang, Nuguse and Hocker), and finally, a HSer beating the collegiate record, its going to take a 3:32 to win NCAAs this year
3:35?
Was Nuguse gunning for it and lost to Kipsang? Or content just to qualify?

Nobody was really trying to "win" these regionals (aside from guys like Kipsang and Kiptoo). I'm sure he was fine to get in a good effort and qualify. Why waste so much energy in a prelim?

Kipsang went out like a bat out of hell, putting like 4 seconds on the field with 600 to go, meanwhile Nuguse was just racing for second.
This thread aged poorly. Kessler now has a better PR because he had rabbits. I’ve no doubt that some of the NCAA guys could run 3:32-33.

How it should be! It’s good that the goalposts are getting moved. In sprints/jumps the NCAA produces world class performances. Mid-distance and up has long been weak. Guys who’d be non-competitive in a fast 1500 shouldn’t be able to win ncaa titles as 3:36-3:38 guys.
