Barega can't run the 5 000 if he takes part of the 10 000m trials?
Tsegay not doing the 1500?

W5000: Gidey v Tsegay v Hawi Feysa v Fantu Worku. Three spots available.
Can anyone confirm if Ethiopia is doing its standard "no doubling" policy. Aka, is Tseguy not running the 1500 six months after setting a WR???
Stunning implications if so
Happy to see Getnet Wale running the 5k and not the steeple. When you run the fastest 3,000m time since 1999 with “only” an 8:05 steeple PR, I want to see you in the flat events, personally.
Also, it’s hugely significant if true that neither Hassan or Tsegay will compete in the 1500. The chances of a medal for Muir, Houlihan, Purrier or GDS go way up, as do the odds of gold for a healthy Faith Kipyegon—hopefully she and Timothy Cheruiyot will open up their seasons soon.
The Olympic W5k looks to be totally stacked, with Obiri, Hassan, Gidey, Tsegay—try taking a medal from those four alone, not to mention Tirop/Kipkemboi/Klosterhalfen...seems like wise calls from Houlihan and Purrier to target the 1500.
Kind of surprising if Barega, Kejelcha, and Gebrhiwet are all in fact foregoing the 5k in favor of the 10k. They are the three best DL circuit 3k-5k performers of the last few years from Ethiopia, probably the world, and I like their chances at 5k medals better than their odds against Cheptegei and Kiplimo (Kipruto and Kandie) in the 10k. I foresee some nasty split for the last 5k à la Bekele/Geb Paris 2003 from the Ugandans.
Genzebe Dibaba is listed in the 5k field with 1500M next to her name; the same thing occurs with Barega, the only 10k entrant with “5000M” next to his name, and I wonder the significance, if any.
Men's 10000: Tola v Hagos G. v Belihu v Kejelcha. Again 4 into 3 spots won't go.
M5000 - Edris, Wale, Haile
M10000 - Barega, Kejelcha, Gebrhiwet
W5000 - Tsegay, Gidey, Worku
W10000 - Teferi, Gemechu, Yehualaw
Not sure what the 5000m means next to Baregas name, but the ETH selectors are loaded with options. I think this group would offer the best challenge to Cheptegei and Kiplimo.

6th is FBK games, are Ethiopian distance trials still on the 8th at the same track?

Do we know if Genzebe and Barega are doubling?
Damn. Niyonsaba doing the 10000m
I assumed perhaps she was a pacemaker?
Looking forward to what we could see at tomorrow's trials, particularly from Tsegay and Gidey. Anyone reckon we could see Gidey running a sub-30 10k? Sort of a response to Hassan's WR? Hope to see some fast times.
Also, is Genzebe Dibaba not entered anywhere?

I posted on another thread Giddy wants a really fast time low 29 even high 28 (Though not sure if the source is good).
Wow, amazing if true. I've always thought both her and Hassan have the world record in their legs, so I'm really eager to see what Gidey can truly do. Obviously, her current PB is way, way slower than what she's actually capable of.
