The article I'd read would detail the various groups and their training styles / volume.
While this is a low bar, it does seem like the Beasts do more than TME, but I have no sense for how far off they are from a group like Bowerman TC.

~1:52 but he has been injured. Still pulling for him!
I don't think anyone was expecting great things off 5 weeks training.
Yeah same exact thing he said before his last race. Tick tock.

Wynne ran pretty well last Sunday, but he did terribly today. I didn't get to watch the race though, what happened?
Kidder ran well coming off of injury today, but Windle didn't run that great. We'll see what Allie O, Athlete Special and Freitas will run pretty soon, but it seems like they're doing ok but not great so far at this meet.
Bad race from Akins and Athlete Spesh, ok result from Freitas. Is Yorks injured?
Karisa Nelson 4:08
Didn’t see what Allie B ran
Kerr, Ribich, and Heath in the 5,000
Kerr is a damn good looking man
Allie O runs 15:18.45 to knock 6sec off her 5000m PB. Not bad for recent injury
Spencer can't keep up in workouts so how is he supposed to do so in a race?

Agree, this was amazing for the injuries she has had.

THIS. Spencer seems like a nice guy and all, but how did a 1:49 guy even get on their team? Is it just for the YouTube following or what?
If I were a Beast I'd probably be looking for a coaching change, this is a pivotal year for a guy like Windle after being the World Silver medalist and kinda seeming like the door was wide open for him a couple years ago. I was curious if he would make the US team for Japan coming into the spring.....now I'm just curious if he'll even be at the trials.
It'll be interesting to see if he hangs around their group if he doesn't make the trials/the Oly team. He's rapidly approaching 30 years old so maybe a coaching change and a run at the 1500 could be in his future?
Spencer Brown made it because he had a youtube channel, but it kind of made sense.
A 1:49 guy, taking a year to train in a new system, could feasibly become a 1:46 guy. Next year, a 1:45.
However, my opinion is that he stagnated hard and is out of options. He was a 1:51 high schooler. Barely got faster in college. Doesn't have the build to run the prerequisite 47.x 400m needed for elite 800s. He could have gotten it by lifting hard for the 2 years since he graduated, but he didn't.
So he should reasonably move up, as he was a 3:39 guy (way better than his 800m pr). But now, with all these resources, at the most important year for track runners, he gets the same injury twice off of the easiest professional training I have ever seen. He doesn't want to be exposed in a 1500, so he stays down at 1500, gets exposed anyway.
Brooks needs a change. Every single week is a long run, a 5 mile tempo + sprints (the worst time to do true speed development is right after a tempo, it's just beating their legs up), and a track session (with variable distances/paces just trying to adjust pace to hit a goal time, with no real specifics on what it's for), and 4 easy days. Amateur hour.
Spencer needs a change. He needs a season of races like the American Track League, with 1500m and 800m races, and he needs to stay healthy. Too late this year.

I’m surprised his brother Moe didn’t beat him too

He was one of the runners that was nearly taken out by Moh at the start. Sped up too quickly to get back with the group and faded.
How did Mackey get the job in the first place? What exactly is his coaching experience?
This training all sounds like mindless Berryhill-era Colorado State stuff.
Most actors are not the character they portray on the tube, remember Bill Cosby was the world's greatest dad LOL
The Athlete Special is entertaining but it is reality tv.
In theory any one can run professionally but that doesn't mean you will ever win a race or make any money. Or even improve on your college times.
Spencer is in a jam right now, he can't quit or he'll lose all the followers that he worked so hard to get. But his times wouldn't place in some high school meets so it's getting harder to call himself a professional runner.
He's a 3:39 guy.
If time didn't matter and he got to reset right now, he could currently be 4 months out from popping off a fast mile in September. Unfortunately he has to follow the pro runner schedule and flounder through the next 2 months running like crap. So it goes.
If the only thing that mattered was times and long term career goals, he'd have said "forget this olympic cycle" like 2 months ago and start preparing for a solid 2022 indoor season on the East Coast to pick up a sponsor.

Let's hope Spencer puts the Beasts on his back tonight.
Did anyone else read this as “What’s up with the Breasts?” Lol

Easily the best thing I’ve ever seen on letsrun. If he could make Ribich good he can do a lot for this team.
In all honesty, when have the beasts been relevant? They didn’t have ANY athletes going to Rio and the only performer they have (on the men’s side) is Kerr who basically peaked for a 1500 race two months ago
