that's not how the math works.
You have to create two groups.
100 people without vaccine: How many get infected.
100 people with the vaccine: How many get infected.
From that you derive a percentage effectiveness.
Not necessarily 100 each, but yes. The 72% efficacy is probably the biggest reason s why some people, like Harambe and 2600 bro are such a big advocate of the mRNA vaccine. I tend to agree with them. Certainly if you were hoping to reach herd immunity, though will have a very hard time getting there with a vaccine with a 72% efficacy rate against symptomatic illness.
I also think that, to date, the data regarding really concerning side effects, is better for the mRNA vaccines than, say J&J, and probably AstraZeneca(very early yet on all counts, I know)
