I did 10:16 HS
31:00 college (4:57)
My time wasnt fast so not everyone can.

Look at Rupp’s progression. Rupp ran 13:37 in high school and 27:33 as a junior at Oregon.

Yes, 26:40, before (life time best) he moves up to the marathon permanently.
I think this idea is reasonable, but you have to assume you are talking about someone whose range lends itself to the 10000m. I was not extremely talented, but ran 60-80mpw in HS and ran 10:08 senior year. I ran 31:09 to be a good but not great DIII runner senior year of college. I was injured often first two years of college and then figured it out. But I was also very dedicated and most high school 3200m are not dedicated for 4 years of college running, and that is why this doesn't happen often (in addition to that only about 10% of your typical college roster will focus on the 10k).
Well, in the last normal year, 2019, about 15 senior high school boys broke 9:00. In 2019, zero collegiate men broke 28:09. So, maybe not.

That’s right. If your training and progression is going well, 4 years after high school(or sooner) you should be able to run your high school 2mi pace for 10k.
Thoughts? Unpopular opinion or hot take?

Going from 9:30 to 29:30 sounds more reasonable on paper (even though most probably don't). But expecting every 9:00 guy to turn into a 28:07 guy is getting ridiculous.

I don't know many 9:30 guys who ran 29:30 and even less 10:00 who even ran 31:15.

Holding a HS 2-mile pace for 5000 is more typical. I knew a lot of 9:20-30 guys in HS and only one ever broke 30:00.
agree-I did 5k in college at my HS senior 3000m pace--10k 30 seconds off...I did considerably more milage in college..

I wasn’t a 3200 meter runner or a 10k runner, but oddly enough you are right, my 3200 PR is equal to my 10k pace....had I known that I probably would have quit LOL
High school 2 mile pr senior year (2017) was 9:56
College 10k pr (2019) 32:09
Maybe as a senior i could live up to that proposition but idk man that's pretty hard to hit 31:15.
*32:19 woops
If you throw enough darts you'll eventually hit a bullseye
Like everything....depends on what kind of training was required to achieve those high school times, depends on genetics, etc.
Not everyone has the same ceiling.
