Anyone else notice how Kipchoge ditched the Alphaflys for this marathon after London? It appeared he was wearing the Next % 2. Does anyone know what happened there? He was the posterboy for the alpha fly

Nothing to read into. Those are the new releases coming. I’m sure Nike just simply asked him to wear them.

Next% are better shoes. It´s as simple as that. I use Alphafly because my old body needs the extra stability they provide, but world class runners generally don´t care about stability in racing shoes.
I stopped wearing the Alphafly's too. Too clunky, and I sometimes touch the inside of my left ankle with the right shoe.
I haven’t run the Next% 2, but some runners are disappointed and say they don’t have the same pop as the original. I doubt I’ll buy them.

Can you please point to a source for this? If true, this much more important than just the change in the upper in Version 2.
Unfortunately, I can understand why youtube shoe salesmen would be disincentivized to not be completely forthcoming on this point if they felt doing so could potentially harm their free-shoe pipeline. Even more insidious would be the possibility that the bigger channel shoe salesman would get seeded different (better) shoes than what gets sold to the masses, even though from outside appearances, the shoes could look the same.
That last point is certainly a possibility with the current shoe technology, although I'm not actually accusing any companies of stooping this low. So please 'DC Wonk', can you point us to any sources that are saying they don't think Version 2 has the same pop as Version 1 of the VaporFly.

This is actually quantifiably true.
Nxt % have running economy benefit in excess of 7% and the Alpha is around 6% so the Nxt is a better performing shoe. Most likely reason for this? Weight and a ton of reduced efficiency caused by having to glue a zoom air bag (which isn't even effective a corresponding section of zoom X foam) into the FF area. The alphafly was a marketing tool for the breaking 2 attempt in Vienna but I personally have no doubt that Kipchoge runs faster in the Nxt's had he worn them.

It’s exactly the same shoe with a different upper only. I suggested whoever say they have no pop were misleading you or were misremembering them due to their drop in fitness

I have a similar theory. If you can attack the distance, wear the Vaporfly N% if finishing the event is the main priority use the Alphafly, Adizero Pro, Metaspeed SKY. VFN%2 have a stupid flap on the heel counter that V1 doesn't have, V1 are lighter.
Silly people trying to rationalize Next% percent > than Alphafly. He was faster in the Alphaflys. He had on the Next%2 because its the next shoe. This fall he will have on his feet the Alphafly2. And so on. The beat goes on. Why is that so hard to understand?

Can you explain it more.

The secret ineos alphafly was not the same as the retail version. In the pre-race photo shoot where eliud was holding the shoes there is a clear foam separation in the midsole for an extra plate in the forefoot.

AF2 won’t be released until spring 22. It’s hardly even in the early stages of development. You certainly won’t see him racing in it this Fall.

Clearly the shoe’s fault.

I've never had this issue with any other running shoe.

Any scientific evidence for the 7% claim?
Just wondering, has anyone won or placed a major half or marathon in the Alphaflys? The Next% and the Adizero Pro seem to have won everything recently.

The same running economy testing that found the 4% benefit of the original 4% shoes.
Kipchoge is far from alone, the Alphaflys have been readily available since last summer, yet many athletes have stuck with the Next%.

Also Kipchoge wasn´t wearing Next% at the Monza race.
