went sub 50 and sub 1:59 in 400, 800. That would put her at least at a 4:35 mile right? 23 200?

22.5 in the 200m 4:30-4:35 in the mile
Probably 4:45 for the mile currently.
22.5 = 200m
4:40 = 1500
To run as fast as she has in the 400m does not leave any time to focus on middle distance. I think she trains for the 600m which gives her the ability to go a little bit up or down. I gave her a very fast 200m becasue you simple can't run a 400m as fast as she has without a decent amount of raw speed. With that said, if she trained for the 1500m I no doubt she be world class.
She and Tuohy were running similar mile/1500 times as middle schoolers. It’s funny to see how different their trajectories are now.
thinking along the lines of this thread:
https://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=10410592
i think athing's "ideal distance" is 600m. at the very least, it is clearly under 800m
she was setting records in 500m and 600m through her whole career. most 1:58 800m boys cannot come close to splitting a 49 in the 4x400 - and "fast twitch" 800m runners are far more common on the male side.
she is also an 800m runner at heart - you can see this with all of her joke tweets about having trouble with using the blocks, and "only breaking 2 so people would stop calling her a 400m runner" when her 400m times are actually pretty comparable to her 800m times.
that being said, physiologically, think her potential 200m is faster than her potential mile. we like to talk about stretching brazier up to the 1500m - i think 800m is already a very slight "stretching up" for athing.
she will be world class at both 400m and 800m. the 200m will be like the 400m is to most elite 800m runners. they can run a respectable time, but it's nothing notable when compared to their main event. in athing's case, events.
right now i'd guess she's somewhere around 22.9, 4:38
also if you think i'm being conservative about that "right now" 200m - I think if she was able to run a 22.mid right now, she doesn't lose the 400m at NCAAs - or have her 400m specialist teammates (who she is clearly better than overall) beat her to the break-in point in the open 4's they've ran
With just a quick check, I see her pr's are roughly
1000 2:44
1500 4:43
Mile 5:00 but all from high school.
Positive is she likes distance and has the right mindset for endurance training. I think right now she could go 4:45 for the mile, and down into 4:30s if she trained for it.
On the other hand, she has so much talent at 400-800 so why bother.
Maybe 23 for 200.
good comparison point is aaliyah miller, who won the indoor 800m she was absent from
https://www.tfrrs.org/athletes/5977375.html
54/2:00/4:26 (1500m) - also runs XC, which athing won't
clearly an 800m runner, and a good one at that. doesn't come close to athing in the 400m or 600m
Just a quick check...
But those are all from 9/10th frade
Y’all forget - Ajee Wilson ran 4:43!!!!! as a frosh over 1600. Mu is a bit more speed oriented!
Right now? 22high and 4:47 mile
Looking at Milesplit, Mu has a 23.6 PR in the 200 (outdoors), a 4:33 1500 PR and has run 18:31 for 5K XC. Now that is some range! The track times were run in AAU championships when she was in high school.
Why do we care? How many slices of pizza can she eat? How fast can she chug a bottle of water? How far can she throw a shot put? She would be pretty good in the 200 and okay in the mile. So what?
I just think it indicates long term potential in the 1500/mile when she moves up someday - plus you just don’t see too many athletes with that kind of range. Mary Decker would have been close but I don’t think she ran a 400 that fast.
It is meaningless. Only an idiot would be interested in having her move up in distance.

Athing Mu and Aaliyah Miller face off in the 1500m this weekend at the 93rd Texas Relays

I anticipate that Aaliyah wins this. Athing still runs well, but not in context to her 4/6/8.
Her best is 24.11 for 200 Indoors and 4:33 for 1500, in 5-7 years when she moves up to 1500 seriously, she will go sub 4 that is a given, faster than the current AR is likely, sub 3:50 is realistic, tis is a MAJOR TALENT.
Aaliyah Miller 4:23 FTW
Athing Mu DNS
Great Time
