Rippetoe would probably say nick has an eating disorder and is trying to stay too skinny , which is impairing his deadlift progression.
Looks like a running meatball.Should need 50-60 mpw to shave off some pounds!

How is this surprising? The guy ran 1’42 nine years ago, natural talent doesn’t go anywhere.
Oh yes it does.

Has there been a more ungainly looking world class distance runner than Nic Symmonds? That's not a knock? Hats off to the guy. He may have gotten more out of his innate ability than any other runner I can think of. That said, even in his prime, he looked so unsmooth.
I fully agree. I think Nick is one of the very few to absolutely hit his genetic limit. There's no way someone built like him should have been sub 1:43. Especially with his bizarre form.
Nick ran a sub 2 not long ago. In these youtube vids hard to tell if he's trying but the longer distance stuff has been very average and nothing particularly impressive for someone of that age and weight.
Nick's strength work for how he looks now is quite bad- watched him maxing out at 35 press-ups assuming it was a joke. But in the vids anything speed/agility related is impressive, makes sense that a former 1:42 guy has great speed without being great elsewhere as an athlete.

'Cause his distance running times have been abysmal. He still has speed. I wonder how fast he ran this workout in his prime.

I scanned through the clip when it came out and I think he said around the 22-23s mark
thanks for the reminder... I almost forgot to click on to dislike then click off before he gets the view.
According to his latest video, he might've been around 193 lbs when he was doing this workout. That makes it much more impressive. How many guys can do 6 x 200m @ 26-27 in their late 30s at a BMI nearing Obese?

Tubby ain’t the right word. This dudes bulkin up with muscle.
As a 1:58 guy I’d probably hit mid 26s for this workout, so it makes you wonder if he could still dip under 2:00.
It's all about talent. A guy I ran with in HS could do similar workouts and he ran 1:54.
Wow his voice is grating to hear. And he's a pro youtuber. The man overcomes his weaknesses, I have to hand it to him.
