i can answer that one. We actually simplify matters by classifying all races into 3 categories.

Black, White, or Mexican.

If you are not the first two , then you fall into the catch all category of Mexican.

Spaniards an Portugese such as Carlos Lopes are white. They are not hispanic which means of spainish origin or latino which generally means of Portugese or Spanish origin. Hispanic and Latino are distinctions for colonial peoples.
