This is such a sad scenario for the best team in the Big 10s if not the nation this year. Can’t imagine how the athletes are feeling.
I know this man didn't suggest that Michigan could be the best team in the nation. I know they return 5 of their top 7, but they still have almost no chance at beating BYU, NAU, Tulsa, and/or Notre Dame.

The outdoor running event isn't cancelled. I think the concerns are less about the team being in the race and more about the kids on the team infecting each other.
I am friends with a mom of a Michigan athlete, she says they are all currently isolating in their rooms for two weeks, even the healthy ones.

Everything is about tradeoffs. People say COVID is about science. It's about tradeoffs.
Considering COVID isn't much of a threat to college age students I'd be all for them continuing with outdoor sports but I totally understand how someone else disagrees. And I really understand how some Provost or VP at a college always defaults to more shutdowns.
You shouldn’t be able to understand. It’s idiotic for them to shut down. The sole reason they are shutting down is because they are too big of p*sides to deal with potentially having social media backlash. Covid isn’t dangerous to run healthy people and anyone that is high risk can easily avoid getting it if they want. Old/at risk population, stay away from people and wear a n95 mask. Just solved the global pandemic. You’re welcome
Won't they all starve?

Definitely. If something isn't dangerous to me, I should be able to risk everyone else's life. If they die because of my actions, it is their fault. They should have know I am a nut job and taken precautions to protect themselves from me.
This is the decision they made. It’s not up to us to regulate it

Newsflash......Young people can, do, and have spread it to others. It has happened millions of times and 419K have died in America.

You sound like an idiot. It is young people spreading it by not social distancing and it ends up killing people and millions are sick.
That is incorrect. Young people are not spreading it to the elderly.

You honestly still buying this? Just turn off your internet and hunker down for the next decade. The world needs to live.

So young people have a strain of COVID that only affects people under 30? When was this discovered?
Seriously is the concept of you getting COVID and on average spreading 2-3 results in infection hitting tons of people really that hard to grasp? Do people think the UMich is some sort of bubble where only people who live there will get infected?
I wonder if we dumbed down the message of why you should isolate too much. I guess I prefer to think of my fellow americans as ignorant versus being stupid.

Well these athletes will not infect others as they are basically quarantined and isolated outside of practice and competition anyway.
Yes the new strain got there and the person didn't know they had it and it spread to a few others, likely those living in the same household. It has not jumped from team to team and they are all still getting tested frequently.
No college sport athlete is in the situation to be spreading Covid to older people any more than their peers, in fact they will be way less likely to spread it. Their peers have no idea when they get covid and are likely moving around when they are infectious. Athletes know when their peers get it and know much sooner when they themselves get it PLUS in order to keep their sports safe they are basically eating, sleeping, class(likely online), practice and games.
Nope. Same strain but asymptomatic and not spreading. States with in person school as compared to states with virtual school are seeing no difference in the rate of spread to elderly. Kids are not getting sick. Kids are not spreading it. Sorry that you are disappointed. Sounds like you enjoy lockdowns but it is killing our youth. Maybe you should think about the next generation.
Literally every country tried to "isolate the vulnerable" and it failed almost universally - hence we are stuck with lockdowns and restrictions. If UM literally sent all faculty and staff home and let the kids fend for themselves then MAYBE your idea would be worth a shot.

Exactly - ask Sweden how "young don't spread to the elderly so we dont need restrictions" worked out.
