Looks like Belichick has just made history! First ever to turn down the Medal of Freedom. Kudos to Bill for doing the right thing. Never been a fan of this curmudgeon but props for this decision.

Devin Nunes has already received one.
Do they deserve one?
Should it be renamed the medal of lying and cheating?
It's likely Belichick won't accept the medal. He doesn't needed to denounce Trump; he can just say that being a successful coach doesn't warrant the receipt of the medal. It would be a mistake for him to wade into the current political sh*t storm.
Of course Jordan shouldn't accept the medal. It would be a joke for him to receive it and would end whatever is left of his career in politics.
You are right about Belichick:

Subsequently, the tragic events of last week occurred and the decision has been made not to move forward with the award.
"Above all, I am an American citizen with great reverence for our nation's values, freedom and democracy. I know I also represent my family and the New England Patriots team. One of the most rewarding things in my professional career took place in 2020 when, through the great leadership within our team, conversations about social justice, equality and human rights moved to the forefront and became actions.

I am not doubting his words above but where was he over the past 4 years when the guy he promoted and praised was mocking disabled reporters, bragging about grabbing women, attacked deceased war heros, turning a blind eye to bounties on our soldiers,..........................
Although I am glad he is stepping up but showing up now is too little, too late for my overall admiration.
Kudos to Belichick's "thanks but no thanks" decision. If the Trump enablers and bootlickers in Congress and beyond only had half the 'nads he has...
Bill Belichick is a class act!
Go, Pats!

Agree. We finally found a line that the complicit won't cross. I give him credit for going the extra mile in his statement, however.

The current line seems to have indivdual consequences that the previous lines did not. There are even some GOP politicians taking a similar stand as Belichick.
I stated how I feel that it is "too little, too late" but would also like to echo your credit because I do believe people can open their eyes, listen to facts, and consciously change their views. Good for Bill.
How are sports figures worthy of the highest civilian honor? Are they buying it?
Finding a cure for cancer or guiding a probe to mores or pluto would seem more worthy of that honor.
It’s almost as ridiculous as the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump only knows sports figures, entertainers, and right-wing media personalities.
