I've got some great news concering Kibiwott Kandie.
The dude has barely run any track races in his life. Tilastapaja shows the half marathon WR holder boasting at 28:45 10,000 track pb. (His official 5000 pb is 14:19 ). But he says he wants to win gold in the 10,000 in Tokyo.
Anyone know his backstory. It's weird to see a 24-year old STUD with so little racing before 2019?
https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-athletics-kandie/kandie-gunning-for-10000m-glory-for-kenya-in-tokyo-idUKKBN29C0NP?edition-redirect=ukWhen he ran 58.54 for second at the World half last year, he was in a pack at 10k a n 28.23. You would suppose he could go much quicker over 25 laps of a track.
Well, then he ran a big negative split because a 58:54 half marathon is 27:58 10k average pace (4:30 per mile)
