I'm aiming for sub17 on the track in a few weeks. I'd be interested in hearing what workouts you ran (and corresponding times) which gave you an idea that you were ready to break 17.
This morning I ran 5x1000 aiming for goal race pace. Most of my splits were 3:23/3:24, but the effort level was high. I'm not sure I could hold that pace for 5k.
In another workout I ran 6 x (200, 200, 400) in ~35sec and ~75sec
In a recent tempo I did 3T (18:05), 4x200, 2T (11:42)
My mileage is about 60-70 mpw, with long runs of 17-19 miles.
