i know this dude who's 43 who claims to have 7 % bf. he does look pretty fit at around 5'8" and 130 lbs. he says he runs 50 mpw @ 6.40 pace. is this possible in america? i call bullshit. it's the age that makes me doubt.

Yes. Come to the PAUSATF XC champs and I'll show you 20+ of them.
I run with a guy ... same age that is probably 5% BF. We occasionally run with a guy in his early 20s who tells the "old guy" not to take his shirt off because he doesn't want to look bad standing next to him. ;-)
you must be new to this sport. 43 is not too old for those stats.
whew! it was hard work not calling you what i would like to...
im 22, 5'8", and weigh 145, i have 6% body fat, why is it so hard to believe this guy, just because he is old? he is obviously skinny.
barry prosser is 4.8% body fat at 51, 60miles a week, and full time builder. Abbbbuuuuuuuuuuu!
one keg is 47 and has about 5% body fat, claims to run at about 6:20 pace(when he's not injured?)and now boasts a world class rowing record.
i think what the original poster was gettin' at is that in america today, it's pretty unusual for an old guy to be like that. sure there are others (maybe plenty), but it's still not the norm.
Im 44 and am 6-1 168# and just came in at 8%.
I was 6% in college.

for a runner, you're fat. no offense.
With 2/3 of Americans being overweight, it's not the norm for any age. ~30% of Americans over age 20 are not just overweight, but obese.

You're a tad burly for a runner. You should get down to say 155 or so. Good luck!
Dave Scott is like 52, still at 7-8% even tho no longer racing....held 5:30 pace for 5K in 95 degree temps at the end of a triathlon in TX. Boo-yah
I currently woddle about 50-60 mile's a week/7-7:45 pace.I m 5'11" 166 and about 17% but 22% in the mid section..get some of that Steve Scott.
I'm almost 45..run 50-60 per week and lift 3-4 days..5'9" 135lbs...can still barely choke out a sub 17 5k and I'm under 6% BF.

-dude, shut up. your height and weight are perfect. don't go starving yourself to death. life is too short. enjoy your running. don't let it become some self obsessive ordeal to have so and so weight or such and such miles per week. life is way too short.

Yeah....I wish you would tell this to my wife! Ha Ha. She tells me Im skin & bones and is always trying to fatten me up. 2 years ago I was 190 (didnt run for about 18 years). With my frame, I could probably drop another 5 lbs. That would probably help me get down to the low 15's for 5K, which is my eventual goal. (so far Im at 15:48)
There are even guys who don't run, eat like crazy and are ripped cut. Their excersice: absolutely nothing.
I knew a guy like that back in high school. He couldn't run for shit. But he could do back flips without even trying.
at AGE 65 5.5%

Think he is close to 70 now, not sure what his body fat is
when he won the masters bodybuilding contest at age 41 he was 2.4%!! so in 24 years he only added about 3%
I know it is possible, but he is the absolute extreme when it comes to the human limits with bodyfat. Incredible.
