We recently found out an XC video game has been invented and we are pumped to unveil it right here as our beloved sport needs to think outside the box if it's going to grow.

The game will eventually cost something but you can try it out for free (tipping is always nice) now at the following link:

Let us know how you do and post any questions for the developers here as we are going to let them know about this thread and they should be able to respond.
Update. Here is an article on the game.

We forgot to mention that down the road it they are thinking about holding a real virtual race with actual prize money and leaderboard.

That was...something. Needs to have an option to spike people.

This would be impressive if it was 1998.
-
Needs an option to use the arrow keys

Rumor has it that some of the top Simulation Football League’s athletes will be participating.

Hey, thanks for checking out the demo. This is still a work in progress so I'm very curious to hear about your experience playing the game. I find JV races to be way too easy, but I've also been playing some version of this for a while. How steep does the learning curve feel to you? I want it to be challenging but not unfairly frustrating. Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

I always thought Crash Bandicoot was the original cross country video game

I remember Nintendo had a game that featured some track related events. Hammer throw, javelin, etc. can’t recall if there were actual running events, though. MANY years ago........lol.

I found it frustrating. I don't understand really how you turn and run at the same time without stopping one and doing the other. -

Big fan of the campy art style though -

There was running. They had a mat accessory with spots for up to four people (in a single-file line, so only the front person could see the screen). You would jog in place on the mat and it would sense when your feet were putting weight on the marked spots on the mat. There was also hurdle races where presumably your character would jump based on how long your feet were off the mat, so we would try to just hop and straddle the mat rather than actually putting effort into a big vertical jump. Probably the most severe case of DOMS I ever had as a child was after spending the night at a friend's house playing that game all night. -
Is this invented by the California brothers?

1. Need an option to customize your uniform
2. How the hell do I turn off the sound? (Other than universally on my computer, which I know how to do) -
"Invented"?? JFC Boomer, try "developed."

Unfortunately not, but a big fan of their side scrolling style. Their pixel art is top notch as well, but I'm hoping 3D more accurately captures the spirit of XC. -
There were times when I was spamming ghgh on straight aways and then I would suddenly turn 90 degrees in a given direction. I'm not sure if there is an input lag where it's suddenly getting alot of a specific key input. Overall I thought it was okay but the controls are more frustrating then the gameplay.
