SMASHED THE WR WITH 14:06
came through 3000 at 8:31 and kept it moving
I'm guessing her last 3,000m was faster than her first 3,000m, as she had requested negative splits. I'm embarrassed to say that I hadn't heard of her until reading LR's coverage of her attempting this 5,000m WR. She has a gorgeous stride, and made that look easy. I can tell it took a lot out of her as it looked like she had to throw up after it was over, though. I'm happy for her!
That was amazing and inspiring to watch! This shows that the ridiculous 15k best she ran was no fluke. 14:06 is crazy. Sub 14 for women might not be that far away as we think!
Winning two World Juniors was put into the right perspective by the commentators. It's an absurd achievement. While she isn't the strongest kicker, her ability is absurd with an efficient, beautiful stride and enormous engine.
look at this cry baby boomer, you are from a clown generation. go back to sucking zatopek's left toe

lmao as fraudulent as her 15k record. Truckloads of EPO, pacers, spring-loaded clown shoes, lights...... Just totally illegitimate and downright boring to witness.
How good is a no-frills clean Gidey? I'd say 15:10-15:20 on a good day.
If that’s how you feel, why did you watch?
Why are so many boomers upset today (and the past few years in general)? They bring up drugs when drug use has been rampant for the past 40 years. They bring up shoes even though the shoes the people they look up to were certainly better than the ones prior runners had. I guess they just can't accept the fact that the runners they looked up to aren't always going to be the ones holding the records.

Saw this coming, she closed the final 1500m in the world 10,000 championships in 4:03! I think this means Hassan is capable of sub 14 at her peak!

These are great questions. I'm getting so sick of the negative whiners on this site. Does any sport have such toxic fans as track and field? The amount of negativity spewed on this board at any given time is insane. And this is coming from a pretty cynical, depressed person myself! Everyone here loves to complain, but they still watch. I can't imagine the mental gymnastics that must go on to justify their obsession.
Apparently, she was punished in school as she did want to partake in running
She showed in that 15km world best that she had the ability to break the 10000m record (splitting 29:40), if not also this 5000m record. That 15km performance was absolutely outstanding, worth more like 13:40s. She threw up after that one too, so it's not like she didn't put everything out there. She is just someone who like Centro is so smooth you can see much effort. This was the harder record, but a lot of people had hovered within a second a lap of this record (14:11-14:23). Would have been fun to see Houlihan and Schweizer in top form from the summer in this. Now that she's smashed this record, look to the 10000m record, a sketchy one, being broken by Gidey as well, and if Hassan gets back in 2019 form ever, one of them should break 14.
so smooth you cannot see much effort.

Well said. Can't we just be happy for these runners who've put so much heart and time into this sport for a little bit before we start ripping them down? So many people here are complaining about the decline in popularity of track and field, but they refuse to acknowledge that they're part of the problem.

Jamin's not having a very good 2020 and this latest women's WR just shattered him and his dreams.
Boomer here. I thought Gidey was magnificent. She is as deserving of the WR as Dibaba or anyone else before her. After watching her surge the last 1500 at the WC 10,000 and drawing that amazing sub 4:00 out of Hissan, I was more impressed with Gidey than the winner. There is more to come for sure.

Didn’t she get destroyed by Obiri in monaco just 6 weeks ago?

I'm sure that's what she's thinking about right now :P
It is a matter of adjusting the EPO to target a specific race. It's special preparation.
