I live in the sf bay area. I have been running as normal and the air doesn't feel too bad. I wear a mask sometimes but I forget it sometimes it just don't wear it. I carry a mask usually though. Sometimes I'll put it on when I see someone if they look like they're gonna freak out. Most iof the runners I see are wearing masks. I sometimes notice a bad taste on my lips and I attribute that to the ash in the air. As far as the smoke pollution goes what I'm seeing is a thin covering of everything with what look like large particles 0.5 to 1 mm. They are like very sparse snow particles.
Is this damaging to the lungs, or do our lungs just clean this stuff out? I mean we breath in all kinds of stuff all the time so our lungs must have ways of dealing with it, and smoke is not a human invention. There have been forest fires forever. Right?
