Yes that was an amazing race. Great runner.
How fast could he run for 3000 and 2000? I wouldn't rule out Cheptegei being capable of running 7:21-22 and 4:50-51. Also if he prepared a bit, i think he could also run 3:31 for 1500m...
Comparison of his race to the other 3 sub 12:40 performances in history
Daniel Komen (1997)- 12:39.74
2:32.7, 2:32.7, 2:31.9, 2:31.21, 2:31.21
5:05.4, 7:37.3, 10:08.53
Haile Gebrselassie (1998)- 12:39.36
2:34.8, 2:31.6, 2:32.9, 2:32.8, 2:27.3
5:06.4, 7:39.3, 10:12.1
Kenenisa Bekele (2004)- 12:37.35
2:33.24, 2:32.23, 2:31.87, 2:30.59, 2:29.42
5:05.47, 7:37.34, 10:07.93
Joshua Cheptegei (2020)- 12:35.36
2:31.87, 2:31.90, 2:31.37, 2:30.34, 2:29.90
5:03.77, 7:35.14, 10:05.46
He ran his first 4k 2.5 seconds faster than Bekele, 3 seconds faster than Komen, and 6.5 seconds faster than Gebrselassie!
His final Kilometer was only .48 of a second slower than Bekele's.
It was simply incredible, he just ran metronomic 60 second laps for the entire race.
It`s as I always preach......level pace is the king!

But the human heart explodes if you run past four laps that fast!

I don't think he can do better than 7:22-25
12.35 is equal to 7.20 in my mind but he lacks speed.
Komen was a 3:29 guy. Not cheptegei.
