I've started monitoring my heartrate recently (more out of interest than actually training off it)
What has surprised me is how much lower my HR is in a track session of 400s or 800s than a tempo effort.
Details:
- Progressive 20 minute tempo, at the end when I'm running at about 10km pace I get towards 190
-6x800s from 5km down to 3km pace with 90 seconds recovery, I'm only getting to 174.
-8x400s at 1500 pace, and my heartrate is only in the 160s
I would have thought my heartrate during the all out 400s would have been similar to a solid but controlled tempo effort, but there's actually quite a large difference.
What is a normal difference between 1500 pace work and 10km pace work?
