Jim can’t even touch Kilian’s WS100 record.... oh wait...
Walmsley has had the same two intrinsic faults from very early on, which are that he is undisciplined and impulsive. Those traits have gotten him jammed up numerous times since he was a kid and will continue to do so. Even after his troubles with the law and in the Department of Transportation, he has remained a kid.
He consistently goes out too fast. This 'I always go out fast' thing is ridiculous at his stage of career. He fails to pay attention to his nutrition. How many times will he have to fall apart late before he learns to race strategically? That problem goes WAY back. When he will learn to control himself and hold himself accountable? When will he surround himself with other than these goofballs who call themselves 'cowboys'?
He is a glimmer of what competitors like Jornet are. Jornet went through his self-destructive phase, which almost hot him killed, but he was still a kid. He is now prepared, trained, methodical. The other greats, the ones who last on the main stage, they are similarly NOT shooting from the hip and have their sh!t together. They tend toward maturity.
Coconino Cowboy Peter Pan could be one of the greats but he'll continue to fall short because he won't grow the fvck up.
Did you hear about Kilians cockamamie plan to beat Jim's record there? Oh wait...
Well said.
I would argue he couldn't pull off some of the records he has with your strategic methodology. The only way to achieve some of the things he has is by simply going for broke. He doesn't have the genetic advantages Killian has being such a small framed guy, so he simply would never be able to achieve the consistency Killian does no matter how hard or strategically he trained. There is no "correct" way to run, just do what works for you and enjoy any successes that come your way.

Beating your roommate you know you're faster than isn't impressive.

This is nonsense.

His successes FAR outnumber his failures. Maybe you should post about how many of the top marathoners drop out of races that are barely over 2 hours long. (Kimetto, Bekele, half the elite field at Boston)
what was even the last time Jim blew up? the last two years he nailed almost all of his races. It's pretty disrespectful to bring up his past problems with the law, it's known now that he was suffering a lot during that time. and what's wrong with his training group? some of them have blown up during races too, but that's just their style. They won TNF 50, Transvulcania, UTCT to name some.
I realize now this entire board reflects the shortcomings of every single poster, projected onto anyone trying to do something they can no longer do.

He has had successes. Yes. WS being his crowing achievement.
But most in the Ultra community don't really value them. People value the big race wins not stupid flat unofficial 50 mile records.
Similar to how people will value Galen Rupps olympic silver much more than these time trials Bowerman is running.
Still he is "young". I think he has alot of time to win these big races. He must adress his faults though.

What are you talking about?
Many would argue that Jim is the most talented runner to run ultras.

That's a pretty solid resume.
Also, Walmsley did not lie about climbing Everest twice in 24 hours.
This is dumb. Pay attention. Walmsley has matured a ton (not that he had to), and raced incredibly smart in 2019 - and really, it wasn't as fun... but smart.
You sound like the one with arrested development.

Killian has no reason to lie about that. He is not happy that he didn't get the record and his sponsors made a big deal about his second summit as being a different "record". That's why Killlian attempted to go back to Everest last year but the weather wasn't good enough.
Killian is still the best MUT runner on the planet until somebody proves otherwise.
Killian's biggest problem seems to be his suunto watch. I have one and it isn't the most accurate when it comes to elevation.
How many STRAVA segments did Jim bag on the Hardrock course? It had to be a bunch. Hasn't uploaded the run yet.
Yeah, sure no match for Kilian, right?

Look, no one is arguing Jim isn't fast. But he is no Kilian. The simple fact Jim is out trying to break one of Kilians times and not the other way around should tell you something.

If Walmsley beats Jornet's time on Hard Rock, then we can no longer say Jornet is the best in the world.
There is no evidence Jornet summited Everest. If he wants to go back to prove the doubters wrong, that doesn't make sense. Going with no camera was a matter of "style" for him. But now his style is to go with a camera to prove he can do it? Seems like a lack of foresight to me.
Jornet is an entirely different class of athlete than Walmsley. That a couple of posters think otherwise is deluded. Walmsley is a nice, American mountain guy who makes a lot of youtube videos to monetize himself. Jornet has been destroying mountains and courses everywhere on the planet for quite a few years now, and is a world-class competitor in multiple disciplines.
Jornet FTW by a lot.
