Wow just came back to check on this and it's gotten crazy. I just had a simple question, I didn't want to create controversy or get labeled a "troll".
So yeah this was a big reason we decided not to publish a video - imagine the insults and crap we would have taken if we would have disclosed who we are, what we look like etc.
Anyway to answer your many questions:
"Not a single soul on LRC is ignorant about distance running, that's the whole point. And everyone on this site knows about Strava."
-I didn't know anything about letsrun before finding it on google a few days ago. we found it searching for "good 5000m times"
"Not yet )) But it wasn`t so many hours ago I offered that? Anyway , if there are some other runners that wants to improve magically they know were to find me, but I only coach for free
at special occasions like this. Welcome to my world class coaching!"
- really appreciate the offer! I don't know yet if Matt will train full time for track but I think he's going to go out for a few practices with a track club we have here.
"The easiest question to answer ‘where is this track’ was ignored by the OP but he goes into dialogue about the other ones."
- didn't even notice someone asked this. There are so many questions and comments I just glanced through and tried to answer most. Now I'm obviously not too inclined to disclose where we live given a lot of negative feedback...
"Yes you should tell your friend to train. Sub 14 should be doable for him with very good training"
- thanks! I'll let him know. Matt's goal now is to break 14 so he'll be glad to hear that.
"I'm not quite sure how good your friend could be as his soccer and mountaineering may be developing his talent more than we think...but everything about your story rings true. His talent is not unheard of but it is certainly well beyond most. You could almost call his talent borderline "elite.""
- he does so much mountaineering and a lot of that is fast climbing, jogging along ridges etc. so I bet that's what's helped the most.
"No soccer teams are running 5k on a track. If they are doing any running it is on grass and shorter distances"
- haha ok dude. Our soccer field has a track around it. Also we do longer endurance training in the off-season all the time (longer than 5k!). Obviously you don't know much about soccer cross training.
