My guess is he got injured again and no longer wants to train with anyone. Will probably move back out East and wear the uniform IF he races for the rest of his contract time.
Perma injured since 2016, now he's bouncing around finding new places to get injured at and new coaches to get inured with.
Wow he's churning through groups quickly. NOP, then back East, then to UW, then BTC, now what? 5 groups in 4 years.
Don’t blame him. At some point it’s not about being a good runner, more about getting paid so you can secure your future
Pretty much impossible to run 13 flat if ‘perms’ injured since 2016.
I wouldn’t be too surprised if it’s true he’s no longer with BTC. I thought it was kind of odd Schumacher let him join the group in the first place after running with NOP for so long. I never thought the BTC training would work out very well for Centro either.
He’s currently 30, and I don’t see him being in the sport for too much longer, especially after getting sick and/or injured pretty much every year since 2016. I don’t see him being a Nick Willis-type and managing to run the 1500 in his mid-30s.

Leaving the BTC isn't weird, but scrubbing all social media evidence that you were ever in the group is a bit strange. May have been a really ugly breakup with Shelby.
Reminds me of Webb at the end of his career. Centro is obviously more accomplished, but we know how this turned out for Webb.

he's a strength-based 1500m runner, why wouldn't it work him? clearly worked just fine last year
quick timeline
- joins Bowerman in Nov 2018
-doesn't start working with them until April
-gets world qualifiers at Pre in June
-trains through USAs and qualifies to worlds
-only 4 months after starting workouts runs 13:00 --> 20 second PB!!
-already has a silver and bronze from worlds and decides to race for gold towing the field sans Cheryiout and Kwemoi and still runs 3:32
Seems to have gotten hurt since then and is taking his time to get healthy and make sure he is ready to defend his Olympic title in the absence of real races.
As for the insinuation that he doesn't fit in with his teammates....a quick social media search shows he lives with teammates and seems to get along just fine
no need to villainise centrowitz and depict him as a bad teammate that jumps from group to group
It worked out great for Centro with regard to his strength. 13:20 to 13:00 shows enormous improvement. Maybe if you adjust for conditions and time of year, he was 10 seconds better at 5000m. Still, that gave him a great opportunity to improve at the 1500m. He also ran 3:32. Not bad after just a few months of training. He got injured this year. This isn't a 1500m group, so I can understand him wanting to go elsewhere for more speed for the Olympics next year. If he'd stayed healthy this year, he'd have been set up perfectly to switch to a more speed-based approach for next year. As it is, it seems he'll have to start from scratch.
I mean more along the lines of BTC members seem to do a lot of volume from what I know of their training, which I didn't think Centro could handle very well without getting injured like many BTC runners have (Bairu, Solinsky, Teg, Hill, Jager last year, etc.). It looks like a large fraction of the team isn't injured now though, maybe Jerry's figured out a better balance of intensity/recovery? I still think Centro could run low 12:50s if he were able to stay healthy and committed to the 5k.
I guess this is why Shelby is running so well now
Centro is not currently injured

Your rumors are misguided.

Shelby's interview from 2 weeks ago cited Centrowitz and her playing video games until 2am when quarantine first started. Learn a book

What? You’re basically saying, “Well Centro was on BTC 4 weeks ago, so that means he is now.”
Someone asked Centrowitz last week when he plans on racing next through Instagram, and his response was,” When Jerry lets me,” so I would say that your rumor is incorrect.

If I had to guess, I'd say Centro was injured and didn't make it to altitude camp. Because he didn't go to altitude camp, he probably isn't allowed to break quarantine and stay with the team. Especially since they are trying to get a couple great efforts in lately. He's probably a little mad about it and eventually will be able to compete.
He made a comment on instagram that he would start racing with the team "as soon as Jerry lets me" so I'm assuming he's either forced to quarantine from the team right now or he's just not healthy enough to compete.
I wish we were able to know these things as a fact. Hey Letsrun journalists, can you inquire? Not sure why we're all guessing.

Maybe he needs Jerry’s permission to race with BTC because he isn’t on the team anymore.
