Here in the uk , I have noticed that the leaders of many of the big xc races are triathletes . This is mainly in the junior age groups(u13,u15,u17,u20) however this shows in the senior races as well. I think this is mainly due to their extra aerobic training hours, they do so many miles on the bike and in the pool that they become extremely strong aerobically.
I feel that this theory has also been proved in the elites as well. In 2018, Alex Yee ( a 20 year old triathlete) ran a debut 10k in 27:50 winning the British champs. I don’t know the year but world junior triathlon champ Austin hindman, ran a very quick ( think it was 8:44)2 mile over in America. Hayden Wilde ran 13:21 and a quarantine time trial and Richard Murray ran 13:37. Craig Mottram spent his junior years Training as a triathlete too. It doesn’t seem to be a fluke that they are running such good times.
I am a 15 year old runner myself and I am building up my running mileage ( to about an hour a day) , but do you think it would be a good idea to add some cycling and swimming ( after Covid) on top of my running mileage to allow for some extra aerobic strength. If so how should I go about this?
