Why aren't two of our champions running?!?!
Why aren't two of our champions running?!?!
Gray is coaching
Dude, cause the Joggersworld Fun run is that weekend too, and if Alan has to choose, he'll go to that instead.
As for Gary, no clue.

Don't give Culpepper any of your shit. Culpepper is a great runner. He will race in other races which he feels will better his chance for qualifing for the Olympics. And why degrade him by accusing him associated with Runner's world. Khalid and Geb have also given interviwes with Runner's World, but I dont hear you accusing them of being strongly associated with it
FreshmanRunner's blast at Culpepper is unwarranted. He and Shayne are parents of a long child, and they both surely have track plans for this spring. Some people just don't want to fly to Switzerland in March.
Shayne Culpepper is out too - might be a family thing
From what I have read the Culpepper's never planned on going. As recently as last week I read that Gary was planning on going. I thought he was using that run-tex road mile as a tune up?
freshman runner....geeez man...did you want any amount of credibility at all? and you name yourself freshman runner? you truly must be a freshman
Just how long is their child? I thought Cruz was a normal size.
Still, It's a shame they are not running. I would love to see how they stack up against the world in cross.

Im not saying that Culpepper is a bad runner, he probably is the best in america, and his 2:09 affirms that. What im saying is that Culpepper needs to be in more international races than just the Olympics and World Championships. Im also not bashing Runners world either, in fact I though the article they did on him was very good, I was just saying it to prove a point about him skipping Euro meets and for sticking close to home. As for baby Cruz, well, I mean I think its hard to believe that he cant find a baby sitter, why cant his grandparents take care of him? Im also sorry for anyone I offended with my comments, I just believe that Alan is one of the worlds best and he needs to show his enormous talent more often.

Take a look around kid. You might figure it out.
I can absolutely respect Culpepper's decision to stay home. However if he doesn't choose to run with the big dogs and hang with them then he won't be considered one of them. Its a matter of his priorities and if his family is more important and that is very reasonable decision to make, but he'll have to sacrifice some big race experience, and although he has some already, he hasn't done anything to show he can challenge for a medal, yet.

The decision has been made.

Why?
I was just saying it to prove a point about him skipping Euro meets and for sticking close to home.
What point would that be?
I just believe that Alan is one of the worlds best and he needs to show his enormous talent more often.
Again, why?
I am surprised nobody accused them of being on drugs yet.
Isn't that a typical reaction on these boards when someone skips world championships after winning the trials? Didn't Culpepper come down with a "flu" in Sydney?
Shows how hypocritical and inconsistent some of you guys are.
He still ran in the Olympics, with the flu, thats why no one questions it
Family thing my ass. Culpepper simply doesn't run against good competition and never leaves the States unless its for an Olympic team. I am sick of people saying its because they have a kid. He didn't go BEFORE they had a kid.
Alan is a great, great talent with a tremendous work ethic and seems to be genuinely a good guy. Sure, he ran Chicago and I give him credit for that, but that has been an exception, not the rule for him. His total unwillingness to challenge himself and step outside his comfort zone has probably cost him at least one AR at 10,000 and undoubtedly kept him from getting the most out of his prodigious talent and training.
I am ZatOpek. My purpose is to complain about Alan Culpepper. If I was Alan Culpepper, I would be the best runner ever. I would hold all records. All because I race more instead of train more. I am ZatOpek. I have spoken.

Soph runner- The reason I think anyone wants Culpepper to race more often than Championship races goes back to the old saying "To be the best, you have to race the best." Culpepper hasnt done that well in the olympics and world championships, and its because he dosent have alot of experience in meets with a ton of competition. He cant get all his race experience running in America, he needs to go out and go to some of the bigger meets in the world (namely the summer Euro meets) to get comfortable running in races that might have 3 or 4 Olympic Medalists.
Your second question goes along with Alans recent racing in Lubbock(?) Texas, where he ran 28:59...and beat the next guy by 4 minutes. Now, im not trying to bash 33 min 10Kers, cause I am not one myself, but Alan doing that race was like Roger Clemens pitching a Babe Ruth meet.
Lastly, simply cause Culpepper is damn good, and should race in meets other tan national and World Championships. Look at Geb, all of his world record performances came in big European meets with alot of competition. Culpepper even said in Runners World that hed like to break 27 or come real close to it, well, hes gonna have to race internationally with guys that are capable of sub27, or do an all out race with Meb, or else he aint gonna come near it.
No offense, but Culpepper clearly knows much more about what he does and why than you do.
