Good news for Texas was that positives were a bit lower over the weekend with 6,200 Saturday and 2713 Sunday. Bad news is that commercial laboratories are reporting a backlog of 5,195 cases from Dallas County that did not make it into the totals due to a coding error. Most were from July. About 600 from August. They bumped up Dallas County's totals by almost 10% to just over 63k positive cases. And this is just the beginning of the process to correct these coding errors. This also came as the State said it had found errors in its positivity rate and were correcting that rate downward.
Fatalities were lower with just over 200 for the weekend.
Houston area hospitalizations are very slowly trending down, but still about 3x pre-spike levels. Still seeing a good amount of positives with @ 1700-2000 a day. A bunch of school districts are back in session this week with a lot of kids opting for virtual learning. The big districts go back Sept. 8. Houston ISD is all virtual the first six weeks and has the option of face to face the next six weeks unless the virus is surging. Harris County health dep't issued guidelines for opening schools that would basically keep face to face operation shut for now.
