Aw, no cracks about baseball players being at risk due to obesity?
COVID 19 is largely a working class virus in the US. Anyone with a white collar job has been holed up at home and would only be exposed if they did something stupid. But working class people are getting it working at meat packing plants, warehouses, prisons, health care, grocery stores, etc. In areas that have had 1,000+ per million positive tests, I would not be surprised to see 10-20% exposure among working class people.
Herd immunity will come only with vaccination. It takes 70% of the population to be infected to get herd immunity. At least half the population has a comorbidity. If you wall them off and let everyone else have a giant corona virus party, you still won't get herd immunity. Absent a vaccine, the only way to herd immunity is mass death and complete collapse of the health care system. Plus, the biggest barrier to herd immunity is that only a small percentage of the population is dumb enough to willingly expose themselves to a virus that can cause everything from blood clots to arrhythmia to kidney damage and death. People would rather live and be poor than die for the rich.
