One thing I see that hasn't been addressed is the fact he had a conceal carry permit and was carrying a weapon in both videos.
If you went thru conceal carry class, you are instructed about Duty to Retreat. Either he didn't listen to all the instruction, or completely failed it. I am not condoning any behaviour. Duty to Retreat taught you to be aware of your surroundings,OBLIGATED to stay away from any type of conflict, and you have a higher responsibility to follow these due to you carrying a weapon. I agree that he had a right to carry, I won't dispute that whatsoever. I think he lost all his training when, 1-he decided to carry while protesting. 2-he injected himself into a situation(directing traffic in one video) where he didn't need to(law enforcement is tasked with directing traffic). 3-ICE was in the area and conducting arrests. 4-any interaction with law enforcement when you are conceal carrying introduces lethal force to them. Through my training, 1-I would never conceal carry to protest 2-I would stay on sidewalk 3-If I did carry and got into the street, I would have walked back to sidewalk. 4-If I interacted with ICE, I would have raised my hands up away from my gun(this is the poiint where I'm introducing lethal force to law enforcement, and by raising my hands I am reducing any tension, etc). I would also verbally state I have a conceal carry permit and I have a weapon. Of course this is easy to say at this point, but my experiences have taught me to act responsibly. Now we have the video of him 11 days prior. This really shows his true behaviour. According to witnesses, he drove up, got out of his vehicle, and started on his rant. we just see his rant and spitting. He is injecting himself into situations that you are taught to stay away from. You see him spitting and kicking a law enforcement vehicle, so at this point I really have to question his decision making process. All his training is out the window. Not following anything he was taught. He made that decision. Now here it is. If ICE had arrested him and he was convicted, he would have lost the right to carry, as his permit would have been revoked. Unfortunately, the Hennepin County legal system doesn't work that fast. Rights are not shields. The laws of our land are there for a reason and they will evaluate your actions. This was so preventable, as I see it through my experiences and training. But again, hindsight is 20/20.
