Wait, cutting back on carbs makes you lose fat???
Yes, it becomes difficult for your body to store fat with a diminished insulin response. Insulin is a storage hormone, and although necessary for survival, it promotes the uptake of fat in the adipose tissue (along with glucose and amino acids taken up elsewhere).
My advice to the OP would be to eliminate any of the following foods, if contained in your diet. White bread, fruit juice, gatorade, chocolate, soda, pretzels, potato chips, candy, beer, excessive amounts of fruit, crackers, pasta, rice, etc. These are not foods that you needs. Instead, eat something else. Anything else. You will get leaner.
I'm not a fan of eliminating all carbs from the diet, especially for guys who are trying to do some intense running...but keep it under control, and make sure they are coming from fibrous sources.
