Oshkosh and Hamilton coaches should push Kaul and Kosgei to face off at Nats in the 5k. It would be like Leer and Symmonds dodging each other a few years back, or Yuot and Moen. If either of them ever complain about lack of competition, then they arent taking advantage of a possible great showdown. Kaul is in excellent shape. I still think Kosgei would beat him in a 5k, but they need to race eachother finally.
Cross Country doesnt count. Kaul ran for second.
I do believe they ran against each other in the 5K at the 2008 Outdoor Championship.

schneider ran 7500 meters at cross nats with one shoe and placed 5th. He's tough.
First off didn't hanny get like 4th last year in the 10k? What does being a cock have to do with how he finishes? As long as he doesn't win. Hell Kaul isn't the most pleasant either but he is no where near the cock that hanny was.
Yes Kosgei and Kaul faced each other in the 5k last year but again that is after a 10k which takes longer to recover from compared to "jogging" a steeple. Plus remember Kaul fell...Not to say that would have changed the outcome at all. I think it would be closer this year however.
The 5k Never seems to go out hard so I would bet if they both did it it would be fairly close until the last 100-200 meters where I could see either one pulling away in about 14:12ish.

I think we will all agree that Kosgei was in great shape last year. After running 8:43 at Penn and his performance at nationals proved that to be true. I don\'t think he was really tested in either event. He obviously had a lot left in the 5k and in the steeple Erichson ran for second and I definitely think Kosgei wasn\'t trying his hardest.
Schneider is one of the toughest kids you'll meet, and nothing like Abdallah. Not blessed with great natural ability he seems to just work hard and improve every year. Running 4.5 miles at Hanover with one shoe to finish 5th. Two shoes and he is most likely second to Kosgie. It would be great to see a real 10k at nationals, been awhile since there have been at least 4-5 guys capable of going under 30:00

Most of the bigger names (except Corland) appear to be doubling, so I wouldn\'t predict too many big times. Unless, of course, they\'re just trying to keep everyone guessing.

I have a feeling that Theiss is injured, he has yet to run or appear at any meets, not even on Oneontas 4x4 at Penn.

I think he meant Kosgei jogged a 855 steeple. Albeit an overstatement, it looked as if it could have been strikingly factual after the end of that national race. The guy has terrible barriers and runs a 843 or whatever last year at Penn! 12 seconds slower should be "relatively" easy.
Makes you wonder what he'd run if he had daily competition, or more competition in meets. I think his best event is the 1500 right now. No reason he can't go 3:40 with his 400/800 speed. The man is untapped

Get a life ClarksonXC!! Maybe he did not return your emails for lack of athletic talent and grades.
Although I did not personally witness his race, i was told by someone else at the meet that kosgei made a big move with about 1k to go, then hit a wall the last 400 which is illustrated in the results..I believe he finished 7th or so in his heat.
He's a great distance runner, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's accurate to say that he 'jogged' his steeple.
