My Son Ryan Shay

a young man pursuing his dream with all of his might is an inspiration to all.

ryan shay was that inspiration.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I never met Ryan but I followed both his and Alicia's careers since they started competing in college. It just feels so surreal that this has happened to someone my age, a fellow runner, so healthy and wonderful. It is clear from the huge heartfelt response to your loss that he was an outstanding person in all arenas of life. As many have said, we are grieving with you. And as a recently married woman, I feel especially for Alicia. It is an unimaginable loss. I pray that she will find peace in the thought that Ryan has passed on to a better place, a place where she will some day be reunited with him.

We were utterly shocked and saddened upon hearing of Ryan's passing. Our deepest and heartfelt sympathy goes out to you at this time. We know and experienced the loving bond Ryan and Alicia had. Ryan was an exempelary athlete and a great guy.

Those of us with sons hope they grow up to be the kind of man Ryan was. My condolences to you and your family.

When I was online to check the results of the trial from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia I was shocked and sadden to hear the tragic death of Ryan Shay. I am a good friend and former teammate of Ryan’s brother Casey from our running days at Lubbock Christian and Ryan was just a guy you don’t forget. Running is just a sport and even though Ryan was a very talented runner he was a much better person. My thoughts and prayers are with Ryan’s wife, the Shay family and for the many of us that had the privilege of knowing this great young man.

From Traverse City, MI. I had the pleasure of watching your son race in high school and at the local road races. He set the standard high. I will think of him every time I pass through the Jordan Valley area. My prayers are with your family.

Ryan had to have been on top of the world, loving what he was doing and doing it so well. I was watching the webcam of the marathon and couldn't understand why I hadn't seen or heard of him. What a shock, I had no idea the ambulance that was heard was for him. I love to run myself and was inspired by his accomplishments. My love and prayers are with your family.
