Seeding Seeding is done with preference given to marks made during the current indoor season. Lane preference in relays will be given to teams with actual marks from this season as opposed to composite times or times from previous seasons. If a composite time is significantly faster than an actual time the seeding committee may use the composite time instead. The seeding committee reserves the right to use an extraordinary mark in a similar race distance for seeding purposes (i.e. an athlete who is ranked top 3 in the US in the 800 may be considered for the seeded section the 1 mile).
That seems pretty definitive. The other thing is they didn’t bump anyone. They added her to heat. So instead of 12 it’ll be 13 runners.
My daughter has run the last few years and my main gripe is the size of the heats. They are way to big. The other heats have 15-16.
Katy Zang said that she normally runs in Nike spikes, but she said that she couldn't remember the exact name of those Nike spikes. For her 2 mile race 2 days ago she decided to try running in New Balance spikes because it's a New Balance meet.
She didn't say if she will be wearing Nike or New Balance spikes this spring season. My guess is that Nike or New Balance will give her an NIL deal and so she'll wear the spikes of whoever her new sponsor is.

Yes, the heats have a lot of runners, but the alternative is having lots more heats and then these meets would take even longer.
Have you ever seen the 3200 heats at the Arcadia Invitational? They have 30-35!!! kids in each heat. At least the New Balance heats aren't that bad.
Yes, Katy Zang confirmed in a interview that she wore the Parker Valby spikes for her 2 mile national record race.
The way she is improving, maybe one day Katy Zang will have spikes named after her too.
Zang’s 9:42 last week is equivalent to a 9:46 2mile (per Daniels). So she essentially ran 4.5sec/mile faster over the two mile distance, due to a combination of:
(1) changing over to the PV spikes;
(2) running on a 200m banked track versus a 300m flat track.
She could have run even faster if she hadn't run the first 400 so quickly, and if she hadn't run half the race on the line between lane 1 and lane 2. She probably could have run around 4:33.0 .

Yes, we may have another Athing Mu (I don’t run on the rail), Parker Valby (I don’t run tangents) on our hands.
We should also add the I take all my splits
BTW: how many extra meters do you run on the outside of lane 1 on an indoor track for half the race and then in the middle of lane 1 for the rest (for a mile). 30m to 40m?
