This thread was started before the race. We changed the title and merged it with a 2nd thread that was started with the title of "Ethan MF Shuley 2:07:13 Marathon at 2026 Osaka Marathon". We have an article up oon the race here: https://www.letsrun.com/news/2...
That is where me and you differ. I don’t want people to agree with anything. I want them to form their opinions. I’m not trying to convince anyone that Ethan is doped to the gills, because I’ve already admitted I don’t know. I was stating an opinion based on the story and circumstances. I’m sorry that my writing is too advanced for your current understanding.
Your writing is not “advanced.” You have been on your soapbox saying that you think Ethan is doping and looks half Japanese. So you have now been permitted to state this. If you are not wanting others to agree, why did you point out being downvoted as if it mattered? And why do you repeat yourself? Your trolling is actually not bad, as I am starting to think that is your role.
For the second time, I was only agreeing with Grassrunner. If you have such a problem with the Japanese comment, ask him also. It isn’t even a big deal. Only a troll typically accuses another of being a troll to divert attention from being discovered as the true troll. So you have as of now admitted to being a troll.
Rory Linkletter wrote after the Richtman marathon that he foresaw a wave of Americans breaking the 2:08 barrier and I think essentially it's coming to fruition. It's been a long time coming, but the American men's marathon race is truly deeper than ever. Like, in the past cycle you'd have to really hype up stories about could it be Scott Fauble or Colin Bennie or Futsum.
Now, you have a tsunami of guys running a faster time than any of those athletes ever did. And really I think the marathon is more competitive than it's been, perhaps ever but certainly in a long time, just in the sense that the US has had the top end talent at times but the third and sometimes even the second spot could be anyone's game because the depth just wasn't there. Now, it's looking like you might have to run in the low 2:07s to quality for the Olympics.

Intelligence still matters here. There is no evidence that Ethan is Japanese at all. His mother, his father and his siblings do not appear to have Japanese ethnicity. So you get your underwear bundled up over PEDs and ethnicity, which is your prerogative, but maybe curb your arrogance when you are off base about his ethnicity and I don’t know about the doping issue, and neither do you.

He looks straight out of Appalachia, in truth.
What is the look you are referring to?

He ran a best of 29:26 last month. Yup he is clean.
if you're dirty you would never chose to live in Japan, Japan is VERY strict on what comes into the country.
I would encourage you all to listen to his long interview on Citius with Chavez recently on youtube. The kid really has a great story. Unfortunately, he seems to be extremely injury prone, so hoping that this isn't a one off. I had a teammate at university that I think most of us thought would be the next great, but injuries got the better of him. The training required for elite results can be a shaky tightrope to walk.
Let me start by saying that I absolutely love that he puts himself out there like this. Also seems like he has a funny sense of humor about the struggle.
That said, I feel bad that he didn't get more matches and dates than he did. It sounds so brutal. Hopefully the running thing helps. There have been some cute Japanese girls in the peloton that are also huge running nerds that would love to hang out with him since he's so freaking fast, plus he just seems like a genuinely nice dude and super transparent and has a lot of humility.
Rooting for you, Ethan!! Stay strong champ! (And stick with Pairs!!)

ironically the fact that he is so desperate to get dates and f*ck girls is holding him back from getting dates and f*cking girls.
Ethan seemed to imply that he is not sure he could do the training he does without the super shoes or whatever. He sounds as if he has really struggled with injuries, especially Achilles tendinitis, and that in Japan he often is running on concrete. Well that doesn’t seem like a great surface for an injury prone runner. He seems to have amazing determination. He said he takes Mondays off but was still running 140-150 miles a week.
he seems nice, smart and in my opinion he is good looking. His Japanese seems to me to be outstanding, and this should give him a big leg up in the dating world.
I'm shocked he can't get dates. What is going on with Japanese women?
will he have more success in the dating world now that he is a 2:07 guy? I have to think women runners at the very least would find him very attractive.

I know the 'tism is rampant amongst us distance runners but this is pretty bad.
It's painfully obvious from his videos (and the interview videos) the guy is insanely awkward. Based on your posts, the same can be said about you.
Shuley is an incredibly gifted runner and a smart guy though, he'll be fine if he stays focused on his passions.
