Tam Gavenas and Tayvon Kitchen top American true freshman at Nuttycombe? Looking good. Very impressed with Tam Gavenas. I know he was FL champ last year but didn't have anywhere near as crazy of a track season as I was expecting. Seems like an absolute monster in XC and I suspect that he will develop very, very well.

Will he choose to Rep the USA or Canada for the World XC meet? - he can contest the U20 race.
So, am I reading it right that UGA won Pre-Nats mens? I am assuming this is because of Nuttycombe having more of the contenders . . . right?
I mean, I know the old CBU coach is in year 2 (I think it's year 2) at UGA now, but that's quite a move up. Even their women look less woeful.
Still, I feel like it must be a mirage. As a Georgia alum and fan, I haven't had any XC results to cheer for since . . . ever? I just can't believe this is real until they actually make it to Nationals out of Regionals. Or, hell, make it within the top 5 of a Regional meet. Or top 10.

Nuttycombe was a fun watch, though! Good to see NC State women look great after a reload! Gonna be interesting to see how both the mens and womens teams who didn't run their A-teams show up later this year!
NC State has a strong five - but that's it. There is a huge drop off to #6. If even one of their top-5 gets injured, gets sick, has an off day, trips in the race - they could easily lose 50 points. Their only chance is to have their top-5 all run at the best or they could drop out of the top-4 or 5 as a team. There were 46 places between Engelhardt and Rauber; this could easily be 65+ places at nationals.
BYU is not as strong in the top-3 but their depth is ridiculous. There was only 21 seconds separating their #3 from their #8, and they did not run Hutchins or Lovell. I don't think Lovell will make their top-7 but she already beat Farmer once this year. There is probably 21 seconds from #3 to #9 when you count Lovell. Any injuries or illness will be easily replaced with virtually no negative effect. And we have yet to see what Hutchins can do.

Impressed with these two as well. Tam is going to be a contender in the coming years. The great ones in XC usually show up as true freshman in this race. Wolfe, Blanks, Rocky, etc. impressive by these two freshman.

well the question for nc state is whether the fairly tight pack of their runners at Chicago was a fluke. Today was not good for the 5 to 6 spread. Michalak and Englehardt's times today were 10-15 seconds slower than Chicago, while Rauber and Putman were 50 seconds slower. Rauber was 37 seconds faster at Nationals last year vs today and actually was just ahead of Englehardt at Chicago..

Will be an interesting race. State #6 and #7 capable of running better, and still some other depth on bench. Highlight for Pack was performance of Napoleon and Michalak. Will be interesting to see there new lacctic numbers. Also Engelhardt steady and consistent.
BYU looking equally good with Hedengren now on the board as a legit possible #1.
I'd still favor pack with Gapes now at #4. Hartman, Napoleon, Michalak, Gapes, Engelhardt, Rauber, Putman.
