“The decisive factor in the court’s conclusion was that there was no evidence that created a continuous fear in his children. The court has particularly emphasized that several close family members and outside witnesses have not seen or experienced abuse.”
So here is what I think this mean:
1. Kristoffer Ingebrigtsen’s narrative about being seriously physically attacked by Gjert at least 3 times in his upbringing (a strong hold to his throat/ hard slap in the face during a run/ being pushed into traffic during a run) is not considered as evidence of abusive conduct since there were no witnesses (aside of Tone Ingebrigtsen, who doesn’t confirm her son’s story). The same goes for the incident where Gjert is accused of standing hard on Henrik’s head with one foot -Henrik is too young to remember (about 3 years old?), and Kristoffer the only witness.
Kristoffer also talks about “continuous fear”, which aligns with the testimonies of four of his siblings, but not by his mother and brother Martin. Neither by some outside witnesses. The court therefore regards this as unproven.
2. Henrik has testified about “a regime of fear” that was “a thousand times worse than any physical abuse”. This aligns with the testimonies from four of his siblings. But the court dismisses this as evidence with the same reasoning as in the paragraphs above.
3. Filip has testified about being physically thrown into his room, and about frequently neck holds and arm bendings, that sometimes hurt a little, sometimes not, sometimes more, depending on Gjert’s mood. This aligns with his sibling’s testimonies, as does the story about frequent threats, screaming into the face, finger poking on the chest, finger snapping on the nose. The court however doesn’t find this proven, because of lack of confirmation beyond the 5 siblings.
4. Jakob testified about being beaten in the head for several minutes as a young kid by Gjert. The father used both hands and removed his son’s shielding hands. And screamed into his face for a long time. The court dismissed this as evidence since Filip was the only witness that confirmed Jakob’s testimony. The rest of Jakob’s claims are without witnesses: Twice being threatened to be beaten to death. Being kicked in the stomach by his father when he fell off a manual scooter as a kid -hints to Gjert’s sayings about learning consequences of one’s behaviour (hurt from falling), and that he likes to make this consequences more obvious by adding a kick. And a throat hold.
5. The daughter testified about the same psychological abuse and control and fear regime as her brothers. She stresses also that the towel incident only was the last thing in a chain of far worse things -the fear and psychological implications.
6. The court has a tape where Tone is saying that there’s no wonder the kids want to get back on Gjert after what he has done to them. And that she is tired of protecting the kids from their father. But the court probably regards this as too diffuse as evidence, also since Tone doesn’t stand by this recording in her court testimony.
7. The son Martin has taken his father’s side, after initially signing a report to the child protection service, and not wanting to visiting his parents for months. When he eventually visited them -according to his wife’s testimony to see his little brother- he said that he felt his our siblings got sour on him. But the court hasn’t judged his turning around as influenced on this or other motives.
Lastly -my take on this: I think there’s a good chance the prosecution will appeal the sentence to a higher court. And I think there’s a chance this court will weight the 5 siblings’ testimonies more than Tone/Martin/outside witnesses, and sentence Gjert to jail. Time will tell -a possible appeal is scheduled to January 2026.
I’m gonna celebrate yippy yappy happy I’m gonna celebrate Gjert is a free soul!!
This is a case of I TOLD YOU SO. Already discussed this months ago that this was domestic vengeance case by the elder brothers against Gjert using the innocent Jakob as a sheepish proxy. The elder brothers were lucky to not to get a counter verdict implicating them for perjury and lies in court.
It’s a happy day and with Jakob injured double the joy. I like Jakob as a runner but for deceit he deserve a slap and a forfeiture of Tokyo 2025 participation.
Right now he’s gonna be all vindictive and head out for a premature double threshold to vent that frustration and rip open that Achilles further. Just you wait and see in space and time.
If you slapped anyone in the face with a towel you would have committed an assault in law. So what excuses that if the victim is your child? Assaulting a child is fine - especially your own? If you add to that that it caused physical injury, as shown by the photograph of the welt it produced which was offered in evidence, it is similarly likely there would be a conviction. The only reason Gjert escaped conviction for what he allegedly did to Jakob is that Jakob was unable to produce corroborative evidence of the kind his sister did. It was only his word against Gjert, which didn't satisfy the burden of proof. But for two young adults to bring such charges against their father adds to the probable veracity of their claims and suggests it was indicative of a history of abuse by him of which they had simply had enough.
None of that matters here. A majority of posters on this thread indicate their sympathies lie with one who is convicted of an act of abuse of their child because that, too, is in their own nature.
A father must be allowed to violate the law to ‘abuse’ his son at least. At the very least the son. He can and should be sweet with daughters/girls as girls are girls are jewels. Boys are also jewels but boys are built for battle and must be treated like such. Boys must take more pain than girls.
Armstrongliv don’t forget earthly law is vastly imperfect to divine law. Divine LAW permits the rendering of physical hits for punitive treatment.

This is great news to start my day! I knew Jakob was lying.
Everybody knew. Look at the TV footage of him testifying. He wasn’t even putting on a sob show. No melodramatic theatre to at least make the fake more real. He was basically testifying with that same wobbly lip purse sequence he shows on every major world or Olympic 1500m start line introduction and post race interview and the look in his eyes DOES NOT betray the slightest clue of any emotional, mental, spiritual distress.
I have 2 big dogs 1 male 1 female. They are inseparable. Every time I would confine one behind an enclosure and let the other one roam free the latter would always betray a despondent look in its eyes. Even dogs do a better job than Jakob at being honest in court. Jakob should know better he has a dog and thousands of LRC posters rear dogs and know how to read human behavior. He can’t escape nothing from us.

He was sentenced for abusing Jacobs sister thought.
That’s nothing it’s just a small slap on the face and it’s a towel not even a hand or a rod. Making a big hoohaa out of nothing. Innocent prisoners of war in North Korea get hit with a flaming iron rod on their heads and backs and you are complaining about being hit with a fancy towel? Maybe Gjert should have done better with his daughter but daughter has her own growing up to do and be thankful that countless people before her were not as lucky as just being hit with a fancy towel. If she counted her blessings it is good for her spirit to take nothing away from what Gjert did.
He was sentenced for abusing Jacobs sister thought.
Not a pattern of abuse though. Just a one time incident with a towel that was most likely an accident.
Even 7 times is okay. I mean it’s just a freaking towel not a freaking taser gun used on Fred Kerley. I have been whipped with a towel on the head by naughty playmates in high school and it hurt but it was all in the name of good fun. But I was a guy while she is a girl. Maybe girls don’t often play around hitting others with towels in locker rooms but boys do. Still it’s just a towel I wish to repeat.
I don't know what makes me happier, Jakob losing on the track or Jakob losing in court!
Both it’s a huge day of justice. For lying in court ( and even the court knows that and tries to save Jakob the embarrassment by phrasing the verdict in a less harsh way) Jakob now deserves every 150 major championships loss as justified punishment. Will this curse end? No!!
I have no reason to say all these things except in accordance with the balance of physics!!
Keep on being an apologetist of an abusive maniac. Jacob and hist siblings have suffered enormously their whole life time in he hands of this control freak. Yes, Gjert produced massive starts, but at what cost and by whos choosing?
I don’t need to apologize. Gjert was cleared of all serious charges. Jakob, you, and others here need to apologize for unproven libel.
The only thing Jakob “suffered from” is being spoiled and not being able to do anything he wanted when he was a kid. Cry me a river.
Ooohhh cry baby now Jakob!! Poor thing. Every other son would be so proud of being pummelled by a father that love him to the sun and back a million times. Despicable!!
I think its one of those things that they accepted when they were younger because they really didnt understand anything different. Then when they got older they questioned the relationship but also possibly knew that his strictness possibly kept them out of trouble as much as it limited them.
They got to a point somewhere down the line when they wanted more control and they pushed back and used the courts as a way to irrevocable untie them from their dad.
Dosent mean hes a monster, just a dad who got something really wrong in the quest for success.
This post encapsulated everything that is immoral and depraved about modern LRC posters of the modern generation.
Why must it be that when children push back against parents the latter must always be in the wrong unequivocally rather than the children? We all know children born to the pop and tech culture generation were more immoral than children born in the early 1900s. They were more defiant, headstrong, rebellious, lazy, cantankerous, lying and suffer more mental episodes due to weaker immune systems and heart health resulting from exposure to artificial electromagnetic fields and neurotoxins in the food and vaccine chain. We know children today are vaccinate 300 times more than 1900s so their brains are that much more disorderly behaving!! They simply can’t follow instruction and have trouble paying attention to details. Children are way too stupid these days. They maintain that stupidity in adulthood too.
So why would the parents have to take the blame for that? That’s a government level society wide problem and not limited to individual families.
Children are as much to blame for things going terribly wrong in families as parents, but the biggest blame must be held by the capital state. They pollute our air and waters which in turn polluted all our parents and childrens thoughts and behavior and make them go into conflict with each other.

The problem with the list of allegations isn’t just the accusers’ inability to prove those alleged incidents happened. They also had no evidence of a continuous fear of Gjert from his children.
The kids’ actions have shown the opposite of continuous fear. The eldest sons chose to stay near the family home after moving out when reaching adulthood. The boys often goofed around with their father and teased him.
The claim of Gjert being a serial abuser who terrified his kids completely falls apart under scrutiny. Keep in mind that Gjert never wanted to coach Ingrid. He didn’t think she could handle his tough style of coaching. He resisted her requests at first but she kept insisting that he coach her.
Ingrid had a front row seat to observe Gjert’s coaching of her older brothers. She saw nothing that scared her. She only saw something she wanted to be a part of.
If Gjert was such a monster, why would Ingrid insist that he coach her? Why wouldn’t her older brothers talk her out of it?

I'd assume Gjert offered a mixed bag towards them, so they were able to both fear and love him. With the fear thing, the father only has to show that side once in a while to scare his young kids. Then they live on edge, behaving carefully as to not set off their father but inevitably they know he will be due to rage in some time. That's living in fear. That's also exactly what makes some abusive people very emotionally and psychologically dangerous,--coming across as normal and loving most of the time but always having that switch at their disposal. It could stunt the emotional development of children substantially when they live in that kind of fear. They could shut off their emotions because they internalize that showing emotion is dangerous as it could set off the abusive parent with anger issues. The people defending Gjert had the privilege of not facing abuse as a child, so they would not understand. But yes, when you have multiple kids turning against you in court, that seals the deal for me as an adopted child myself. Sure, the game of law will let him off the hook in a legal capacity as "innocent," but he was far from that. Gjert probably had a difficult upbringing himself as a child to feel the need for that control and anger, it all happens for a reason.

Why is it that all the anti-Gjert people here are the only ones attacking other people’s character in this discussion? It’s hypocritical for the people who are so judgmental about the towel incident to be so verbally abusive. Maybe you should look in the mirror before casting aspersions on others.
It wasn’t a matter of merely Jakob’s word vs Gjert’s that yielded the not guilty verdict. “The decisive factor in the court’s conclusion was that there was no evidence that created a continuous fear in his children. The court has particularly emphasized that several close family members and outside witnesses have not seen or experienced abuse.”
Apart from the fact that the court found him guilty of abusing his daughter you are effectively saying Jakob was lying about his father. So how do you come to that conclusion?
