Never heard of Mary until now. She must be a UK-based one? She had a good point about heat in one of her recaps.
If it had been 4degrees she still would have ended up with the same result based off her pacing. Her first 5k was at sub 2:40 pace.
She is also highly insufferable. She 'can't work out' what went wrong and is devastated as she believes the marathon owed her 2:50.
The runna ad post of hers is super embarrassing for both her and Runna imo. Whole 15 photo essay post about how it built her (and can do for you) this high quality plan to prepare her for the marathon; but don't worry about the fact that she blew up massively - it wasn't a show of her marathon fitness.
The only real show of your marathon fitness is a marathon. If the algorithm told you it had got you into 2:48 shape but you don't run it you, aren't in 2:48 shape you're in 3:09 shape. I'd be asking some big questions of a coach that tells you to go out so much faster than you can handle, or who's helped you prep for the event so poorly, certainly if I were the coach I think i'd be feeling pretty sheepish about publicising my involvement

This is the weird thing about Runna. It seems to be consistently awful for the influencers who promote it.
But the masses don't care? It's not about whether it works, it's about whether their favourite online personality says it's amazing??
The way Mary is harping on about this running journey you would think she is someone like Charlotte Purdue who has actually had an incredibly tough 3+ years with her health and has seriously impacted her profession as a runner. Was gutted not to see her finish on Sunday upon her return. She’s such a genuine and nice human too, hope she’s ok. Mary seems to think the sport/marathon owes her something. She went out too hot as if she was going to run 2:45. Really, she would have likely run 2:50 at her absolute best in my opinion. My views : heat didn’t help, too many miles in training which probably cooked her and also got pacing wrong. Re pacing though, I’ve run London before and it’s very easy to get carried away early on with the downhills and atmosphere. Sure she’ll come right, she’s got talent but for now, please stop going on about what happened, it’s not that deep. There were thousands of other runners there on Sunday who ran for incredible causes and they will never get the exposure or engagement that you get. You have a luxury, be thankful.
I saw some of her video, her b/f ran 2:54 before London at some point and she wanted to beat him. So that is why she may have gone out in 18-high.
I passed Bester on the embankment and he looked like was jogging it in. Then 5 minutes later I heard loads of people shouting his catchphrase (amazed by how many people knew who he was!) and realised he was putting in an effort to finish. He passed me but I beat him on chip time ;)
Annoying how many people are commenting on his video praising him for being so strong and taking loads of people at the end when he had dropped off pace for some time.
What is his catchphrase? Not familiar with this influencer.
She is insufferable the way she’s carrying on you would think someone died. I do enjoy the content from her friends Alex and Lucy though.
I hate when people are fake when there are influencers who legitimately struggled and were open/honest and deserve respect.
People may or may not like Ali on the Run, for instance, but that lady beat Breast Cancer and also had some other health scares/Crohn's issues. She's a trooper.

Re Runna - the likes of Anya and Mary don’t actually use it. They are paid to promote it so every now and then they do a post they’re just completed a workout with them. Mary either doesn’t understand how pacing works or she thought she was way fitter than she was. Her first 5k implies either of these. What went wrong was she blew up because of that first 5k which of course didn’t help in the heat. I’d be embarrassed giving all the build up, telling people you’re going to smash it then when failing, putting out a vlog in tears wondering what went wrong. She’s fake and she’s not inspiring. Just one of those influencers benefiting of click baits and engagement. Her audience don’t understand proper running. Boyfriend is questionable too, very arrogant. Seen him at events.
I bumped into our old mate Josh Lewis on the morning of the London Marathon in the championship pen. He knew I recognised that he was a btec influencer, and immediately turned to walk in the opposite direction. I knew immediately that he hadn’t earnt the right to be in that championship pen, as at the time he had only run a 2:50. A complete piss take. He knew exactly what he was doing. He took off his bib for all the post race photos so he could brandish it all over his Instagram, not to mention trying to hide his bib on course in front of the photographers.
Since then I have been commenting daily on all channels that belong to the man himself. I have been blocked on everything. I want answers. I want an apology. I a London marathon life time ban.
London Marathon Events are 100% aware of the situation, kind of hard not to be given the amount to people who have contacted them. Yet, Josh still lives to Jog another day.
It is ludicrous, Josh is making money from this act of fraud and is laughing at us all, thinking he has gotten away with it. He is posting stories advertising his new PB as a way to attract athletes to coach. This needs to end, influencers are out of control and this is a perfect way to set an example and show people they can’t jog where ever they want. London marathon, stand up and speak up.
Mention this on r/AdvancedRunning, a lot of serious runners that are also aware of the influencers out there will spread the word to avoid Lewis.
EDIT: Disregard after I read another poster mention their mods kill posts about this topic.

I know this has a few people invested to making sure Josh Jogs no more. However, surely this sub thread is not the best platform to ensure we achieve justice?
A new thread titled: 'Influencer Bib Mules into Championship Pen at London Marathon' with all the evidence posted would put the entire population of Lets Run into a feeding frenzy... no way LME can stay quiet that way.
Just a thought?
Also contact Ali on the Run, Citius and other mainstream influencers too.
Just to add, no reply from London yet to my complaint.
I also tried to make a thread on Reddit but the cucks who moderate AdvancedRunning removed it (despite all the Matt Choi threads being left untouched?)
Definitely think it warrants its owns thread
Ugh, it was a good idea at least. I hate how r/AdvancedRunning deletes threads that aren't race reports.
Throw it in the Q&A, at least it will stick there. People read those.
Or even on r/Running, that is a bigger subreddit.

runnerboi made that video of Kate Carter a runner's world writer and how she cheated on three different half and marathons. He might make a video on Josh Lewis..........
Imagine the like of Briggs, Trees, Lewis and Davies were all laughing with each other before and after about this. Thinking we’re fools. Get a proper job you cretins.

Nice of you to mention Ali. She's one of the OG-running influencer...from 10+ years ago. I'm NYC based and she was too --- NYRR and all. Back in the day her blog was very big, and eventually I unfollowed and lost track, only to realize she's now interviewing pros/podcast and all. Good for her, shows that "staying the course" pays. She also had a (not so great) bf / husband who she's no longer with (good for you Ali). And a mom. And yes she hasn't had it easy. I remember reading the posts about finding restrooms in Central Park and thinking to myself how lucky I am that I only ever almost s*** myself once a year or less.
What absolute crap. How can people who understand so little about these events claim to be coaches?
London marathon entries don’t just “fall through.” He should’ve known months ahead if he had a spot through the ballot, charity, Good for Age, whatever. If he missed out on Good for Age then, like others, his time wasn’t fast enough. If he missed the ballot, sucks for him, but that’s what most people go through.
We know he doesn’t have a qualifying time for the championship pen, but even those entries don’t fall through, assuming you’ve run a qualifying time and are a UKA member.
LME will count on a certain % of people not starting & that’ll be part of their planning. People pulling stunts like makes the course even busier.
The entitlement is unreal. I hope LME deletes “his” time and bans him & his mate for a good few years.
He never had an entry - he posted a story a few months out saying he was looking for one! You know what’s worse than not having an apology? Having an apology that contains lies with in it. Weak if he doesn’t confess on Instagram. Hoping LME making an example of him and post an article.

Yeah, I wondered if he'd actually be honest on what "my entry fell through" meant - anyone who stops to think for even a moment can see that as nonsense. And the claims about not understanding and making a misjudgement on taking the bib - again you'd have to be an idiot to think someone wouldn't know taking a (championship) place was wrong (as proven by the hiding the number for photos and taking it off immediately).
The fact that rather than post anything acknowledging this on any of his social media pretty much confirms that this isn't 'taking accountability for a learning opportunity', if you made a genuine mistake and are an influencer who - as he claims - really cares about integrity and the sport surely you'd post about the lesson you've learned to share it with others. If, however, you wanted to try and make it go away and try to minimise blowback you'd make a post or two on a single post on a relatively obscure forum, delete all the evidence of your misdeeds that you can, and delete any comments mentioning it on your social media.
At least Matt Choi made a legitimate apology for bikegate, rather than this mealy mouthed nonsense
A running influencer in Sydney was gifted a family and friends type bib for her and her husband a couple months before the Mara (maybe even more). She was sent an email from LM almost immediately and registered via the portal. All the emails to her bib pick up, start time etc was sent to her email address from LM. These things don’t fall through unless you were planning to run with someone else’s mass start bib and they ended up deciding to run. Hilarious that Josh thinks he can pull the wool over the eyes of people have have started in the champ pen / a major. Or anyone with more than one brain cell.
