I can’t really understand flying halfway across the country or the world to run a tactical race with very little actually at stake. I get that this is like the premier hs track meet of the year but it doesn’t carry a national championship title or anything

With all the clipping and guys running in lane 4....you think someone who isn't a sub 4 guy would have tried to string it out....

Jakob needs to win from the front in a 1500 to save the next generation

No excuse for that dawdling pace. Jane Hedengren showed how it's done. It would have been very easy for the Crater boys and Powell to have gotten together and shared pacing duties (they're all U of W commits). Could have gone 4:17 and then would have had a shot at the Arcadia record.

He'll be there as a perfect pacesetter before everybody passes him 3100m in

There was a thread here about 20 years ago that was about the "High School Distance Gods." There used to be a list of every high schooler who ran, if I remember correctly, sub-9:05 or sub-4:05, but that link is now dead.

The # of sub-9:05? grouped by 4-year increments was as follows:
1964 – 1967: 6
1968 – 1971: 21
1972 – 1975: 46
1976 – 1979: 46
1980 – 1983: 32
1984 – 1987: 24
1988 – 1991: 10
1992 – 1995: 5
1996 – 1999: 12
2000 – 2003: 45

We had 50 guys sub-9:00 in two races.

Genuine theory: I think it’s because these boys have seen Jakob get outkicked at global championships three years in a row. After seeing that, they don’t want to be the guy who sets a fast pace for others only to lose the big race at the end. Arcadia isn’t a championship, but it has that feel because of the elite competition. These boys would rather kick for the win like Hocker.

I think if there were less elite guys in the field more people would feel comporable about pushing the pace but nobody did that this year

Who in the field genuinely cares about winning the Arcadia 2 mile? I think it's more likely that the field isn't as good as last year and nobody was capable of setting a hard pace to begin with (in the sense that they'd still be competitive until the last 200). I mean we had a full random win NXN.

Mantecon got beat by another sophomore in the 3200. Ben Adams from Mountain Vista.

Apparently those boys cared about winning it. I suspect Sam Ruthe’s addition to the field increased the perceived importance of the race by bringing national pride into the mix.

Super underwhelming 3200. Why would you go to a TT that in the grand scheme of things is not that important(unless you want scholarships) to let it go tactical and possibly not break 9?
