You dont speculate and then you go ahead and speculate? Some people in here are just baffling
Applying facts, such as modern tracks and shoes over grass and virtual clogs, isn't speculating. It is an empirically arrived at conclusion. Suggesting Ingebrigtsen can run 1:44 or even 1:42, because fans say he can with nothing empirical to support it, is merely fantasizing.
A former elite 800m athlete applying facts, isn't speculating. It is an empirically arrived at conclusion. But you think you know better that a pro. You are merely fantasizing.

Great points. Speaking of empiricism, Jakob sent me a video of him running a 46 sec quarter that is almost finished reformatting. I’ll be uploading it to this thread shortly.
I have received some of the article from Aftenposten editor in chief Erika Ordway. She’s had to send the PDF in separate files because it’s quite large and data limits will not allow for that many gigs to be sent on one large file transfer. What I have received I reviewed and translated into English with the Rosetta Stone app. Here is a segment of what I have so far:
Aftenposten: So you say that you have run a 46 second quarter in practice? Was this recently?
J.I. : That’s right, it was about two weeks ago. I wanted to test my all out sprint capabilities to see where I stand against my competitors.
Aftenposten: Did this have anything to do with your 1500m finals results in Eugene?
J.I. : Yes, I wanted to see where my weakness lies because I felt I was beaten by someone that was a surprise. I didn’t have any indication anyone in the race would be able to hang on and overtake me. All of my short reps before Eugene indicated that my closing speed was there.
Aftenposten: So are you more confident after your time trial?
J.I. : More or less. It was about a second faster than I expected and I don’t think any of the other 1500 runners can run any faster. Jake Wightman may be right there.
Aftenposten: Do you expect the Brit to be your main competitor and hindrance to gold?
J.I. : Not really. He’s just the next guy. He just got lucky to be honest. I wasn’t feeling great that day and I didn’t pay close enough attention. He never runs too well or consistently on the circuit, so I’m thinking he kind of had his best day in Eugene and won’t be a threat in the future.
Two comments to this:
1. Jakob / Aftenposten would never have said the Norwegian equivalent to a quarter in an interview with a Norwegian news paper / runner -he / they would have said 400m, and your translation program would have translated it to 400m, not a quarter …
2. After losing to Wightman Jakob stressed (in several post interviews) that he felt that there was nothing wrong with his shape that day, but that he did a tactical error. -Strange that your interview claims the opposite -“I wasn’t feeling great that day”..
Have you gotten any explanation for why Aftenposten can’t let us readers find the interview/article in a normal way at the net?

Yeah.
I still haven't seen the El G "1:42".
I'm starting to feel like a Trump voter. I've been had.
But why would someone go to all of this elaborate effort?

Great question. According to Ms. Ordway, it’s because their online database does not have the storage capacity for every single news article. They are Scandinavia’s most popular news source. They have thousands of news articles. They do have a backup of every article at headquarters and are willing to send any article upon request as long as they authorized to do so barring any legal reason.
Now as for your points:
You are making some assumptions about what the Rosetta Stone app can and can’t do. It is a more able and efficient translator than you think and has no problem translating past precise measurements to English colloquial uses such as “quarter” for 400 meters.
As for your second point, I agree with you, which is why I must admit that I am as surprised by his answer as you are.
Good news. Just spoke to homeboy ten minutes ago. He sent me the video file. I’m currently reformatting the file so it can play on my video software. It’ll take about an hour and then I’ll post it on this thread.
To share some comments from Jakob:
Henrik has finally sent me the video of my 400 meters PR. It’s a time trial I ran after Eugene where I got smoked by Jake Wightman. I wanted to see if I was actually lacking speed, because I had not run an all out sprint in a few years. I was pleasantly surprised with my result. I thought I had a mid 47 in me, but I ran over a second faster! As you will see in the video there was some wind on the backstretch, so my sprinter friends Klaus and Frederick rabbited me through 300 meters. It was the hardest I’ve ever run in my whole life. Enjoy the video! Let this show the trolls I have some speed in these legs baby!
Why are you calling Jakob “homeboy”? -asking since I’m not familiar with the term…
1:46.44 puts Jakob in 12th place in the all-time Norwegian ranking (two runners, Audun Boysen (1:45.9) and Jussi Udelhoven (1:46.36) are not included on the ranking on World Athletics for some reason)
Jakob should aim for climbing to either 3rd (1:44.57) or 4th (1:45.42) place. One of those times should be within reach.
1st place is 1:42.58 by Vebjørn Rodal, and 2nd place is 1:43.69 by Atle Douglas. Those are obviously way too much to ask for.
I would also love to see him do a 1000m. He would demolish Filip's national record which is 2:16.46. I think both 2:14.low and 2:13.high should be doable for him.

He claimed he can run 1:41 to Aftenposten. I’m going to post the article here shortly.

When I studied philosophy many years ago I prioritised reading Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, who both warned about Hegelian “reason”. -Now I’m starting to understand why…

Thank you for regularly putting Jakobites in their place. I love the way you knock out their nonsense with facts and logic.
If Jakobites want to see their hero run an 800, they should tell him to meet up with the GST racers in Miami, Philadelphia, or Los Angeles. That is, if he has the guts (he doesn’t).

1. When Boysen ran his 1.45.9 on cinder in 1955 he was 0.2 shy of the WR. 2. Douglas’s 1.43.69 was a win in very rainy conditions, IIRC. 3. Rodal’s 1.42.58 was of course his Olympic record in Atlanta 1996.
So what has Jakob (really) been saying about his own 800m capability? -He has stressed that he’s not fast (rather strength based) and for some years he said “I will never run 1.44” (meaning never break 1.45) when fans talked about 1.42/43… But a few years ago (2021/2022? But not in Aftenposten, and not 1.41) he somewhat shifted narrative, and claimed in an interview that he could run a good 800m, but probably wouldn’t because of priorities…
But this spring both Filip and Henrik have said that they really would have liked to see what their little brother could do in the two laps this season (anticipating something good).

Honestly, you're a genius.
I have been in stitches reading your posts here - they are so good. When you started up with the video encoding I think I was in tears it's that good.

Here’s some more from Aftenposten:
AP: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
JI: Lately, I have been practically obsessed with reading the non-fiction catalogue of Winston Churchill. Right now I’m reading his four volume History of the English Speaking Peoples. British history is fascinating.
AP: I don’t think anyone realizes you are such a bookworm! What about Churchill do you enjoy so much?
JI: I enjoy his lurid yet honest descriptive details and his takes on historical events. His inside knowledge of empire is very eye opening. He has inspired me to be a writer.
AP: Are we going to see Jakob Ingebrigtsen the best selling author at the top of the best seller’s list?
JI: My main goal or pursuit after my athletics career is over is to write. I want to study literature for a while first. I may decide to attend University and pursue a doctoral thesis on Churchill’s literary corpus. It’s a ways off before I make any of those decisions. Right now I keep a diary and I write essays and blog on Norwegian politics and the politics of the EU.
AP: That’s a great start. I encourage you to keep writing. There may be a place for you here at Aftenposten some day.

There’s no reason for him to run thE 800. Unless you also feel the same logic should be applied to Kerr and he needs to race Jakob over 5k. Or even 3k. Haahaahaha

Well, it's close to 6pm here.
I'm going to say a few things. If it turns out that I am completely wrong, then you all get to throw this post back into my face, and I will admit to being an idiot. But I have a strong feeling that this will not happen.
Yodeler, that's all BS, isn't? You made it all up, didn't you? And there is no video of Jingy 400m, or a video of El G 1:42, or any of these chats with Jingy, etc etc etc. Right?
I must admit.....you are good!! You had me!! Now some people might laugh at me for falling for this, but they will have to admit that you are quite detailed and convincing.
Now, I'm angry at you - but I'm also worried about you. What kind of person would go to these lengths? And why?
Part of me wants to go to LR to have all of this exotic BS deleted. But I suppose it needs to stay here to show others how expert some Trolls are.
And you ARE a Troll!! You might be a "nice" Troll, with a pleasant demeanour, but lies are lies are lies.
Like I said, if you prove me wrong I will be crucified.

Go ahead. Prove me wrong.
It looks like YouTube took the El G video down. I sent their customer service line a message to request putting it back up.
I have spoken to my friend who knows Hicham very well. My friend was a journalist out of France and travelled extensively on assignment to Morocco. He told me he is going to email Hicham right now to see if we can get that video. He said if he can’t get in touch with Hicham, he will contact his brother John El Guerrouj because he knows he has a copy of the video as well. I need my friend because the two brothers speak French, but very little English.
I will of course keep you updated every step of the way. Cheers.
