The Trumpist will find out soon when Walmarts needs to raise their prices by 50%.
The next 4 years will be quite the surprise to these idiots.
lol you are the idiot liberal pseuo intellectual. he’s not going to use tarrfis unless it will work. The man is clearly a genius.
ffffing liberal runners around 23-28 are absolute lunatics with daddy issues if they think trump is stupid hahahahaua like get over your hurt feelings, he’s a genius
The goal would to move production to the US and employ more US workers. The problem is the automation levels in the US compared to Chinese or other countries is much higher so you'll basically move 50 jobs from overseas to the US for 10 jobs at a 40% price increase.
Automation is higher in China than the US... MUCH higher. If anything we need to bring industries back so we stop falling so far behind technologically.
Lol Americans don’t want to work in agriculture/the fields. Immigrants usually take up the jobs Americans DON’T want to do. There’s plenty of jobs in the fields, if an American wants to work out there …

Exactly
Why do we need to bring industries back if people already make a good living by dribbling a ball around, plagiarizing some sentences online, becoming a DEI influencer, or simply doing nothing at all?

Hey if china implements the same standard of living (not far behind) and minimum wage equivalent to the US and stop inslaving an entire ethnic group and stop using there power we gave them to anex any nation they want than sure lower tarrifs and have an open market.
Btw I voted for Harris because I didn't want to elect Trump but some things he says have merit even if he isn't smart enough to understand why. Those things have long term benefit to the US restarting us production and decrease the us just being a bunch of people that work useless middle man jobs that are not needed in the 21st century and slow China's rise to be the world number 1.
Not an expert on this but I have read some arguments against them that seem to make sense.
People younger than fifty don't understand that none of us used to live this high of a standard of living back in the sixties and seventies. Getting on a plane was a huge luxury. A nice tv was high falutant! Getting everything cheaper is in part due to having things manufactured in places that can pay people nothing. Cheap Chinese junk eg. A tariff is a way of equalizing the playing field....which means you eliminate the cheap part, and just have junk. It's what we signed up for in a global economy. Tariff don't work unless we are making all the same stuff here. Tariffs would work in 1950.
Bro we are still the same just the objects that matter and are “luxurious” have changed. As it’s relative.
planes are coming now- what’s novel now is space travel or video game experiences
tvs are everywhere now and in your phone-
now what’s equal to a tv is Virtual reality headset for Pporn and a feedback loop where ai can constantly increase what stimulates you based on eye tracking….and a flashlight
Like you are so old. The new luxuries is ai sex robots, in about 5 years your minds over 50 are gonna be blown. Your wives will be meaningless soon lol. the new luxuries of the young, we can’t speak about

trump can do nothing wrong. if prices go up i will simply blame the democrats for not preventing it from happening when they had the chance. Or, I will blame big corporations for trying to make trump look bad.
If you want domestic production, they are a very good idea. If you want to depend on an enemy for production of essential things, then they are very bad. It’s not all about getting things for as cheap as possible.
A lot of countries (especially in Europe) disguise their tariffs on heavy equipment as "local content" laws. Germany especially plays this game. We are welcome to sell power generation systems there, as long as we produce 70% of the value of the equipment within Germany. This would essentially require us to move our production facility to Germany, so we're shut out of that market. Meanwhile, Siemens can sell here without restriction. That's not fair, and a tariff is a viable remedy.
Thanks for proving the point on why tariffs are bad. I want Siemens not semen. Impose tariffs, Siemens leaves and we are stuck with semen. America (currently) > Germany.
Stop playing clown games. Tariffs are excellent if you want to strengthen domestic power. What are they going to do? Not sell in the #1 world market. And consumers are already tapped and will not absorb it. It’s the penalty paid for cheap foreign labor.
Serious question for freetrade lovers: Why are you worried about other nations enacting counter-tariffs? If your theory is true that tariffs are bad, other nations would have no incentive to place tariffs on our exports.
Some of us just want cheaper groceries. Will tariffs accomplish that?
Unfortunately they will be going up, because even foods in the grocery are imported from some where and grown out of a traditional season. You will see prices continue to rise and him all but eliminate any taxes on the top 1% of America. He will bring about another Great Depression as in his last run in the White House he removed banking regulations that would prevent another. So not to be alarmist it’s going to be very rough four years.
Are tariffs a good idea? It is simple. If a Republican president proposes tariffs, then Republicans will say it is a good idea and Democrats will say it is a bad idea. If a Democrat president proposes tariffs, then Democrats will say it is a good idea and Republicans will say it is a bad idea.
In fact, you can replace the word tariff in the above paragraph with anything and it will still hold true.

True story — Biden kept most of the tariffs from Trump’s first term.
I’d love to know who will work in all these manufacturing plants. We can’t get people to do jobs in the trades. Men sitting in their parents’ basement. The answer is … migrants?

But first you have to have the labor to build these new factories. Who might that be?
Way late here. But let's say we can import something from China for $100 a unit or we can make it here for $110 a unit. At the moment, retailers are better off importing from China as they have better profit margins. The United States then loses $100 per unit because that money leaves the country. If you do a 15% tariff, it's now $115 to import (China gets their cut, the middle-man importing has to pay the other $15). At this point, it's better to just stick with the stuff made here which is $110. So the price of this thing to consumers will go up 10%, BUT that money stays in the United States so it's a net positive. I'm not sure how to figure out though if it's better for consumers to have something slightly cheaper, or have more jobs here and keep the money in our economy. It's kind of like the whole argument 'shop local'... Tariffs encourage 'shop local'. Except it's funny that the whole shop local thing is often liberals who are against large companies that offer lower prices, and now the tariff discussion is republicans trying to 'shop local' at a larger level and it's the democrats who think it's dumb.
The same clowns who scream that tariffs will raise prices and cause inflation will tell you with a straight face that raising corporate taxes won't do the same thing.
Raising tariffs is directly inflationary because it inherently raises the price for (foreign) goods. It also permits domestic manufacturers to raise their prices, so long as they remain competitive with or better than those of foreign manufacturers. It also leads to foreign countries raising tariffs on our products as retribution (and lower quality domestic products, which we saw in the 1970s until foreign competition was brought in). Our doing so to China hurts China more than it does us, but it hurts both countries. If combined with industrial policies, such as the Biden administration successfully accomplished in the silicon chip industry, tariffs can combine to restore domestic industry. That's unlikely under Trump. But there will be marked inflationary effects. Raising corporate taxes may not raise prices simply because their markets may not be very elastic to price changes but the corporations themselves also have substantial space to decrease prices after 1) jacking up their prices for profiteering in the pandemic and following and 2) enjoying enormous profits from a weakly unionized workforce and low corporate taxes.

What a dichotomy! Its the best market in the world while at the same time the consumers have no money!
