...one thing is certain: it's not all about winning, there's something else around. One of the best performances of the living legend of our sport so far in his career. Hats off champ.
I’m a little more impressed by his 3000m WR or any other race he’s ever run on the track.
It's the same runner, I respect and love him when he wins, but also when he loses, because he doesn't calculate, he always gives his best and leaves his heart on the track. I loved the 5000m race at the WC in Doha '19 when he hit the wall 150-200m before the finish line, (he could maybe win a medal with more conservative last lap, but he attacked for a win still 18 years old), and he hasn't lost a 5000m since. Winning is great, but losing especially in honorable way makes you a better runner and a better person.
You're right. For the greatest distance runner of all time to finish like a hobby jogger isn't embarrassing; crawling on his hands and knees, like a man in the desert, would be. Although he did look like that at the end. Double threshold - oh, dear. Back to the drawing board.
Back to the drawing board? Olympic champion, world record holder? Who tried an off-distance and admitted he underestimated it? You must be deeply bitter to come up with posts like this one.
Bitter? I am amused. I'm most amused at the reaction I get from his fans.

You have shown countless times that you know nothing about training. You don't even understand what lactate threshold is.
So his training was right for the distance, after all?
For the 1000th time in a month you show you have very poor reading comprehension. Where did I say that? Oh, I didn't. Man, you embarrass yourself on a daily basis.

So you're agreeing with me after all. His training wasn't right for the HM. Make your mind up.

I never said his training was right for the half marathon. You are very confused.

He hasn't trained specifically for the HM at all.
That's what the thread has been saying. His double threshold isn't the formula. So you have to wonder why he thought he could run it and at wr pace. He clearly couldn't.

Boy was I disappointed for him and stayed up till 3:30 am to watch this and WTF! He looked like he was having an asthma attack. I've never watched him so unprepared for a race. He should never have done this. If he were going to run a half he should have done Valencia in December when he was in the middle of his distance running block. He embarrassed himself and I don't want to hear any more talk of 10 world records. He is a 5k track runner, one of the best in history and he should be happy with that. Now if this was just a bad race, even the greats have them, we remember joshua cheptegei crashing and burning in 2017 world champs cross country champs "" "" only to win in 2019 and break two world records on the track and we remember Letsenbet Gidey collapse and who can forget Cooper Teare . So I don't want to be too hard on Jakob, but like these other athletes especially Cheptegei, Jakob must came back bigger and stronger to erase this horrible performance!
He looked unprepared because he was 100% unprepared. This is rhe start of his off season, relax a little. Him trying a HM was great entertainment. With this attitude you'll have athletes not doubling at championships, and only running three meets per year, and that sucks.
Hope he ends every season with a HM, trail run or anything else crazy.
LOL NO!!!!!!! 100% unprepared?????????????? You mean 10% unprepared right sir??????
You don't need specific training to run well at any event!!!!!!! There is such a thing known as affiliated or transferred effect of training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me school you sir!!!!!
The transferred over effect of Jakob's 1500m's aerobic capacity will still do wonders for him in the 10k and HM alright!!!!!!!!!! That means at any time of the year, his base training alone is enough for him to run a good 1500m, 3k, 5k, 10k and HM ALL AT ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A little bit like the Lydiard theory alright!!!!!!!!!
If it was a HM mountain race completely uphill like marathon du mont blanc then YES YOU ARE RIGHT you will need very specific training for such uphill trail races!!!!!!!!!!! But this is a regular HM course!!!!!!!!
