Nope. Valby is faster at 5k and up. Wiley is faster at 1500 and 800. They are the same age. You are so confused. A generational talent had to be the best of an entire generation. ESP and Schweizer are current pros who would beat Tuohy at every single distance. Do you not see how sill it is to call someone a generational talent when they are not even the best amongst their peers let alone a generation?

Why do people like this get so mad about Tuohy? Lol so many of you deeply need therapy

ah so now we limit the runners to certain events.....of course every year the ranking may change so the anointed "generational talent" this year may not be the same next year. Which is why some have different definitions, meaning among the very best as opposed to the best. Oh and ESP and maybe Schweitzer might likely beat Valby and Wiley at some or maybe every distance so what does that say? Dani Jones seems to be getting close to.....
With Valby that remains to be seen. Accepting her story re training, then there is a good chance she is maxed out. That's if you accept the story. And Tuohy has not nearly maxxed out yet. As to the other, lolllllll. At least AIU is now involved, pitiful as that may be.
You keep trying to move the goalposts. Meanwhile only one is getting mentioned 1500-10000. And comparing her to 29 yr old pros is just stupid.
Let’s just squash all this, right now. Generational talent is easily defined by when on June 17, 2018 Tuohy broke a 36-year old high school mile record. (See below). THAT’s GENERATIONAL! Quite literally…
NOW, on TOP of that, a lot of high school athletes saw what Tuohy did, and they saw that fantastic accomplishments are possible. And they have since broken TUOHY’s high school records. She set the stage. She was an inspiration to others to come after her.
No you don't limit it. That is the point. Tuohy would lose every event to ESP from the 100 to the marathon. And ESP is not a generational talent so Tuohy can't be. This is so silly.

It is silly and I think most know why. 2 points: where did I claim either one is a generational talent? And depending who you ask you get different opinions on what that term means. But if you mean just the very best, good luck finding one.

Generational talent isn't defined by official US high school times. It extends to the entire world. There are a number of East Africans who were faster than Tuohy in HS at the same age. Cain and Efraimson were faster but their times didn't count as HS records because they were running as professionals. Going back decades, Zola Budd was much faster than Tuohy at the same age. There is an 18-year-old from Ethiopia that has already run 3:53 and 14:23 this year.

An American high school record stood for 36 years. THIRTY-SIX years. Tuohy broke that record.

Generational.
Mic drop.
Mary Cain ran 5 seconds faster indoors just a few years before...It's impressive but hardly "generational".
I don't know. I will take the ordinary high school kid who thought long term over someone who allowed herself to get involved with Salazar and NOP. Yes it was impressive for the short time it lasted and produced some great results, but it was very myopic.

But that's not the discussion. "Generational" talents put up the best performances of their generation.
When Alan Webb, on May 27, 2001, broke Jim Ryan’s THIRTY-SIX year old record for the boys high school mile, when he ran 3:53.43. Would you not call Alan Webb a generational talent?

Oh shoot, the mic dropped to the floor again…
Oh, I picked it up. Here, I’ll hand it to you.
So. Thoughts?

If some other highschool boy had run 3:48 indoors 5 years before Webb, then no, I would not have called Alan Webb a "generational talent".

The facts are still the facts.
To be a "generational talent" you need to be the undisputed best of your generation. Tuohy is a great runner, but she wasn't better than Cain, who is only a few years older, or Wiley, or Valby. I would say she was a generational XC talent, but certainly not on the track.

I can see, and understand your point. And thank you for saying that about her XC prowess and what she accomplished.
HOWEVER, I will say again (how can you dispute this?):
I’ll say it again…
