Yes. She has been out of school for 6 years doing pretty much nothing. She will be 5 years older than her average classmate and she won't last long. We all know this.
Ten pages about a former high school phenom who graduated a DECADE ago? Who was last in the running news five years ago? Ten pages, about her *checks notes* getting into medical school???
It's not like she got a tell all book deal. It's not like she became the head of the USOC. She's a twenty eight year old woman who is furthering her education, it's a very normal thing to do. And yet here we are ten pages in roasting her for "giving up too easy" "not working hard" being an "attention seeker" and an entitled spoiled nepo baby. Why on earth are you all so mad at this girl?
What do we want from our female high school phenoms? What are our expectations so we can be tolerating their success? So far I have the following:
1. Be bones thin but don't have an eating disorder. And if you have an eating disorder don't reveal it or talk about it. And never gain weight.
2. Be quiet. Really quiet. Be shy and humble. Never speak up. Never express an opinion on anything. Nod and say thank you. And certainly don't ever voice dissent.
3. Consistently post results, always be improving. Race frequently and make sure you get faster every time. Because if you don't or if you get injured, you're a burnout and a failure and we hate failures.
4. Don't have other interests. Running should be your only interest. We don't want you to even be a fan of music, movies or books. If we find out about this, we'll make fun of you and call you shallow. You can be religious if you want but not too religious.
5. Be a team player and love your team. But don't be so stupid that you do too many races for your team and burn out, because if you do that, that's on you. But if you advocate for yourself to run less, you are selfish. if you transfer schools, the problem is you.
6. Work insanely hard at everything. Be a top student. Work crazy hard even when you should be resting. Be known for how hard you work. Don't walk away because if you do you're a failure. But remember, if your body breaks down you are also a failure.
7. If you stand up for yourself in any way shape or form, you're an attention seeker.
8. Accept abuse from coaches because the ability to shoulder abuse is what makes you tough and great, and the ability for them to bully you is what makes them a great coach.
I'll add more to this, but ultimately, you're all sooooo mad at Mary because she didn't pan out the way you wanted her to, and you're lashing out. It's ridiculous and pathetic.

Your list is pretty good. It is really the bare minimum.
Relax, enjoy the sport. Track still revolves around the Olympics and only the very talented who are well coached make the team. For the Olympic cycle you are currently in -- give it your all and discipline yourself away from everything except your education. Student/athlete (or pro status) works for runners ..... worker/athlete does not. So... at the end of the 4 year cycle you have to decide to be all in for another 4 years -- or cutback/move on. Do your best, don't complain about anything.

Why does it take other posters, & not the founders of this site or mods, to set the record straight & say common sense things on topics like this? Create a more welcoming culture. It isn't all about clicks. You should be embarrassed by a lot of what has been said in here & you don't have an ounce of courage to just refute stuff that it plainly awful/unfair, which encourages people to continue to post the way that they do.

Your post cleared nothing up. Please call out the incorrect posts and post the correct information. That is what most of us want. I can't tell if you are disagreeing with posters who said that Cain was a success.
