Deeper field behind Walmsley, much thinner ahead. Weak fielld beat Zach Miller which he did last year
Ya I wish that Blanchard and Evans had been there this year. Dooh…
They had to go look for Evans when he didn't show up at an aid station. He was barely conscious or something like that and had to be taken to hospital. Hope he's OK.
Suck it to whoever downvoted me on page 6 when I said Tyler Green was flirting with a top 10. 7th!
And what’s with all this negative, weak field talk? Only 2 guys are missing (killian and francois) and it’s not guaranteed they would’ve been ahead of Jim. Be happy the Americans went 1,2,7. Sheesh
As an original Coconino Cowboy, some of the talk around him being a genuine chance for the 2020 Olympic team was painful.
That being said, Big Jim's dedication to this event has been unbelievable. Uprooting his wife (alongside his wife moving with him) to move to France, and spend 365 days a year working on his weaknesses is absolutely incredible.
He had a genuine chance for the 2020 Olympic team as much as you can consider any possible top 10-15 might have had a chance with a lot of tossups/possibilities ahead of the race. He was a place in front of Jared Ward and was running without supershoes. Another marathon build up plus supershoes and he would have been in the game. It's not like the people who made or have made the US marathon team in 2016 or 2020 are all amazing talents. Going for it, especially burning more energy without supershoes that everyone else was wearing, was predictably going to result in a bit of a blow up. Lets put it this way. If Jake Riley were wearing Jim's shoes, and Jim was wearing Jakes, Jim likely would have been ahead of Jake.
Courtney can see the top of the final climb. She’s so incredible. If I were her, I wouldn’t run for a full year after this. The triple she is about to pull off this year would be anyone else’s pro career.
Just love all those stupid people that said "Jim's not built for this... he's too skinny.. he doesn't have quads... he's too fast... he's too undisciplined..." all the hate. Freaking losers. From Day 1, even the legacy old guard hated Jim's talent and I'm glad he has proven them all wrong but he didn't even need to win to prove his talent. Legend.

Absolutely smashed Kilian's course record even with 2 extra kilometers. Would have been under 19:30 on the usual course.

14 months ago, in Ultrarunning Magazine D’Haene basically said exactly this. ‘Jim is built like a Kenyan. That’ll help you run a 2:15 marathon but you need a more muscular build for UTMB’. Someone posted that D’Haene was crewing him in this race? I’m glad he proved everyone wrong.

You know, maybe we are too locked into thinking runners maintain the exact same body type. Looking at Jim now, he's definitely got beefier legs than ever before. He adapted. The secret sauce really seems to be gleaning what he could from Francois and the French runners.
Doesn't really count - easier course, weak field, perfect weather, and mostly importantly, the GOAT himself Killian wasn't there. Try again next year little Jim.

He’s definitely not a beefy guy (compare/contrast with Zach Miller), but I have to think that Jim is overall stronger than before, after months and months of crosstraining, which feeds right into Francois’s message.

You do realize he absolutely destroyed Kilian's course record on a course that was 2 kilometers longer? The field strength is meaningless.
Courtney isnt even human. Attempting WS100 and UTMB is ambitious enough (and almost never works out...look at Evans) but to throw in HR100 while winning all 3 with ease...has to be one of the most impressive feats in running altho most people dont even know about it.
