Parker Valby is talented, Solinsky is a good coach and he has transformed Parker Vakby from a 20-minute 6k runner to an 18-minute 6k runner in just a year. It is a bit unfair for Solinsky to get all the heat for Valby not running the tangents. If you watch some of Valby's interviews, you will see that she is not the smartest out there. It is like a teacher and a student at a math class. Solinsky will receive all the hate and he is going to be the scapegoat for when Valby loses, because apparently Valby is too talented to have a flaw, and that everything that is wrong is her coach's fault. Including Valby's IQ.
Solinsky is a Wisconsin G! So sad to see him get blamed because his runner can't follow/understand basic instructions. Parker is fast and pretty, that's about it.

Solinsky is still to blame. She clearly did not know the course.

He probably told her to run the tangets, which is bad advice. But none of you understand this.
Two different things. Some of you claim that the runners know what a tangent is. Most would not be able to answer the question even though they can run the shortest route on a cross country course.

It isn't being argued that runners are mathematicians - that is a complete red herring. It is instead being maintained that most know how to get around a running course by following the shortest route, which is known in the parlance as "running the tangents". As we saw, Valby isn't good at it - and she acknowledges it, despite what her apologists say here.
We all know that. Seems the Tuohy fans want to attack her from every angle. She doesn't know how to run the shortest distance but she couldn't havebeaten Tuohy. I will agree with the first one in that she ran too far. I disagree with second one then.

On the latter point, the speed and ease with which Tuohy ran her down over the last 2k was like a handicap race, as I have previously said. That outcome doesn't suggest that Valby could have beaten Tuohy - short of Tuohy breaking a leg - as Valby had no alternative tactics that might have worked better for her. Even with the lead she had she had no chance of losing Tuohy - as we saw. Nor could she outkick Tuohy.
Based on my precise calculations, Valby would have run 33 seconds faster by running the shortest distance through the course, thus breaking 19 minutes and beating Tuohy by 30 seconds, as some others on here had predicted. This was a truly amazing race that she ran.

Based on your calculations that was an amazingly stupid race she ran. But your calculations are just your invention, like most of what you say.

She ran a very smart race, in order to put the least amount of stress on her legs. This was great thinking on her part, which some people on here get quite upset about.
