I wasn't saying she had the least upside...I'm saying that I don't expect her to have a lot of upside 'this year' from her first race. Just my opinion. I fully expect Cook to have a great NCAA career, and is certainly a contender. But regardless of the Jamboree, I would place money on Roe to place ahead of Cook by the Championship.

And I find the whole 20 MPW stat to be very overblown. She obviously is X-training extensively along with the running. So what advantage do you think she has, except perhaps not having as much strain on her body so far? So maybe she doesn't have the injury risk...but this is no gauge of her upside potential.

Having said that...I'm surprised more programs do not look to lower the total MPW of HS runners. The number of stress injuries seems incredibly high...especially for females coming to the NCAA.

I’m with you guys on ‘body of work’ (wrt Roe v Cook) but at some point the nay-sayers will have to give in to the most recent evidence — hiding right there in plain sight.

Still alotta assumptions about Valby health. If Valby runs this week, that provides two-week intervals between this week, SEC, and Regionals (which is what she had last year).

Touché. But Cook has a recent body of work also; it just happens to be from HS. College freshman ‘adjustment period’ not yet in evidence. Given her parents’ background, I’m not sure we’re gonna see one.

There are a lot of runners on the verge of being in the top ranking group (as FastTuohy likes to rank them). Several knocking on the door, several coming off of injury...it will be really interesting to watch this year.

As I mentioned, I would still rank Roe ahead of Cook (for end-of the-year rankings). Simply because she has been there many times before and proven herself. One race does not justify being ranked at the top...especially in XC. How many times have we seen an incredible amount of expectations placed on young runners, but the transition is rarely easy. Cook was able to run in the top group with Roe the entire race fairly unobstructed...and then a small group broke away...how does she respond when she is also surrounded by Mercy, Tuohy, McCabe, Bush, etc etc.

Again, this is not Cook bashing...I hope she does well....but I would expect her to be somewhere around 8 - 15 at the end of the year.

Amother point, the coach said they are basically equal... unless he was not being straightforward? Roe is being pushed on her own team for the first team so very curious to see how that plays out.

Interesting stuff. BTC is arguably the top US distance pro group so really just wondering how closely the college training will be to the pro training. Like, what is very high volume? Also, will he be good with mid-d/ speedier athletes?

I posted in this thread yesterday but for some reason it was deleted. Maybe I posted it in another thread and thought it was in this one. It was about the NAU & WVU women.

There was a lot of talk about NC State & Tuohy and people complaining that threads always become about them and her. I like Tuohy also but I agree that there are other teams to talk about.

I was glad to see the NAU women do well at the Cowboy Jamboree and I am hoping that success continues at Nuttycombe. They have been in the shadow of the men's team for some time and it is good to them doing well. I would also like to see Taryn O'Neill have another good race and continue on her comeback. I'm a fan of O'Neill and she has had some personal struggles that I would like to see her overcome. I like her because she seems to have a lot of determination and grit despite what she has been through.

I am almost certain that we will not see WVU at Nuttycombe and McCabe will not run there by herself. Yesterday when I looked at their schedule, both meets are listed. However, the Mid-Atlantic Regional is on the Penn State course so if I had to bet that is where I would say they will be this weekend.

The conversions are not linear but rather log-linear. The way you should think of it is in terms of percentages.

For example, if 19:19 = 15:00 5k, then 38:38 = 30:00 5k, not 24:19.

That might clear up the confusion? I should probably just put a conversion calculator on the website...

I think NC State men are going to get smoked. The mens race is going to be a great one with the firepower up front. I think we see the top 55 under 24:00. The weather looks crisp.

In years past you could run this course correctly and get a top 10 team finish without doing a whole lot but this race is going to expose a lot of teams.

Is Colorado any good? Is Syracuse any good? Can Harvards top guys hang in the top 10?

lastly Jerry’s return home. I think the Ducks are outside of the top 20 but he will have them fired up.

Coach Byrne highlighted the need to stay calm when you are in 50th place and running as fast as you have all season. The 250 person field is similar to NCAA Championship field size and depth. 14 of top 20 men's teams in NCAA and 17 of the top 20 women's teams in NCAA.

The are no listings for the B race. Is that going to be made up of those that don’t run in the championship race or lower D1s, D2s, & D3s?
