That is a nice concise summary, but it is hard to draw any conclusions from these results. I saw some negative surprises but nothing I will comment on here.
This post was specifically meant to be in reply to “ContextisKing” because I completely agree…. I think Tuohy is going to do what no one else has done before, taking things to an entirely new level. Only this time, she has a team that she can actually take along with her for the adventure and together they’re going to accomplish things that we’ve never seen before. (In fact, we just caught a glimpse of that at the NCAA Outdoor Championships when we saw 5 NC State women toe the line in the 5,000m. Unprecedented).
It reminds me of what I posted a week or so ago:
“Interesting… The Wood Report has a bold simulator projection showing NC State with five (5) women in the top-8 in their early season projection!!! Overall, they have Parker Valby winning the title this year over Mercy Chelangat, with Katelyn Tuohy coming in 3rd. They show Taylor Roe coming in 4th on her home course. And then it gets very interesting… They are simulating NC State’s Samantha bush in 5th, NC State’s Sydney Seymour in 6th, NC State’s Kelsey Chmiel in 7th and NC State’s Marlee Starliper in 8th!!! Wow… If THAT all happens, that will be unprecedented…. 5 in the top 8???”
I’m actually thinking that something like this may very well happen… But, I think all the other ranking sites underestimate Tuohy; (other than now finally T&F News ranking putting her at the top), as I think that Tuohy will win the individual title, NC State will win the team title, and may very well have 5 women in the top-10. Something next level that we’ve never seen before.
Deep breaths folks, deep breaths. We might expect to see those kind of times at the WakeMed facility; it’s a soccer park…about as flat as a pool table.

NC State has a very good top 5, maybe top 6 and a strong 7th.....and more. I assume Valby, Chelangat and Roe could make NC States top 5. Which of the following would not? You can only pick 2 to beat NC States 5th. 10 cannot. Van Camp, McCabe, Covert, Larkin, Heckel, Mazza-Downie, O'Neal, Markezich, Tynismaa, Asekol, Herman, Hertenstein. Herman with 4:14 and 9:00 to her name might be the slowest of them all.
Yeah I'm still surprised more people aren't at least entertaining the idea that tuohy might take it to another level! I mean she went from 1550 5K as a freshman to 1514 as a sophomore and she has the history of big improvements... And she is also by far the strongest looking and most athletic looking of any female college runner... Valby is really good and had amazing improvements but she's not nearly as athletic looking as tuohy... I mean tuohy looks absolutely ripped in her recent photos... And she seems on another level with her all around training... Looks like they're probably doing something similar to what BYU did with orton last year. Really just focusing on getting ready for the big race...

Stillwater will be a much different test.
But two runners went well under Tuohy's 2021 winning time, when she was dueling with Chmiel. Others made big gains over last year. This year's team is definitely better than last year's.

I would hope so; development is part of what the coach gets paid to do. Big gains in performance are not unique to Raleigh NC nor the campus of NCSU. But, properly cultivated, there is no substitute for a team environment that features champions training with champions every day.
If Tuohy is healthy, there is no reason for her not to push but you have to remember, the course is brutal in the last kilometer with that big hill. Tuohy is smart, she will not run it like NXN, surely she will be with the front pack then at 3k/4k the leaders will separate then at the last K, whoever is fitter, faster will go for that sprint and win. One thing to remember, out of all the distance runners, it is Tuohy who has the best finishing kick last season, this season, who knows if she's slower or faster.
What place was she at nationals last year? Silly to say she had the best kick. Using that logic, the best kick was likely some random 400/800 woman who cross trained and jogged before sprinting the last 800.

Why are you talking about how she did 3 seasons back? But then the answer is 15, she finished 15th last year, after falling down before the mile mark and while suffering an injury. 2 track seasons after and she's now a 15:14 4:06 runner, we are talking about the top distance runners' finishing kick, and not some mediocre middle distance runner sprinting the fastest for a 48th spot finish.
You were the one who said she had the best kick last season. I didn't realize that you were talking about a different sport. I thought you were talking about XC. If talking about track, I think Roe had the best kick.

I mean, commonsense brother. Its a different sport but same person, the runner doesn't change legs when its xc season. Roe doesn't have a kick, all she can do is 32s, even Valby has better kick than her.
