Whoever has programmed the lights for tonight's meet seems to have made monumental mistakes in deceiving viewers and even the athletes. At the same time, it feels cheap for a record to fall due to an athlete clearly aided by an invisible pacer.
Fantastic race by Elise Cranny. Amazing. Very well done! Who is the guy announcer on Tracklnd? He's terrible. He gave splits along the way but still hasn't said Elise's final time. Listening to the audio only. The woman is decent and seems like maybe she's a runner.
Great, great solo run. Just a second and a half off Molly Huddle's 30:13.17 AR from Rio 2016. Had they managed pacers so she could draft for at least 5000m, that record would have been hers.
The pace lights were off again! They were set to 30:15. She was kicking to beat that.
FIRE THE LIGHTS GUY. THIS IS KILLING ME
They werent off. They were set to 30:16. I'm sure they thought. Have her run 30:16 pace and then kick the last lap and she easily gets it. If we are going to can anyone, I'd fire whoever decided no to pay a Kenyan Kenyan/Ethiopian to rabbit.

Ok, but either don't have them or have them accurately set to a meaningful standard. This was the worst of all worlds.
Well hopefully they fix the lights, but nonetheless, based on Cranny's run, how close do people think Fisher will be to the 10k record (or is someone else going to creep closer to it)?

He gave every single 400 split. You could see Elise's time on the screen. He doesn't realize one single fan out there is only doing audio.

completely agree. I'm going to blame to imbecile male announcer as my fall guy
It's possible they asked Cranny and Fisher what they wanted. Fisher wanted exactly even pace. Cranny wanted an even pace for 24 laps but a 3 second faster last lap for kick.

They're doing it partially wrong with the lights and this is the result.
The lights ought to be there to ensure the athlete goes out on pace.
The real danger is in the first ~40% of the race, going out too fast.
Run the lights for the first 10 laps of a 10k, then let the runners dance.
It's an unnatural visual input to run next to anyway, doesn't let the mind expand.
