Holy cow! I FINALLY saw it in the article. I don't know how I could have missed it multiple times.
Yeah... definitely doesn't look good for AlSal. We'll see if there is a response, but even so...

How much of a finger?
Dunno how much, but it does sometimes unintentionally happen when giving a massage using lubrication, the hands slip, that's what I've been told anyway.
I'm convinced it was accidental and Al's got a reasonable explanation.

Did Salazar himself leak the document to the NYT?

Not such a silly idea as rectal suppositories can deliver many types of medication more effectively and efficiently than orally or by injection, that's what I've been told anyway.
(At least there's no mention of oral activities.)

it has always seemed odd how silent he was. with this new information, it is even more odd. how do you not stand up for yourself with accusations like this, if they aren't true.
You have no clue what Salazar and Nike are up to in terms of defense, zero clue...and neither do I.
Alberto is NOT going to be making any kind of major public statement with allegations like that...and they ARE allegations whether he was found guilty or not.
He was found guilty by SS but that doesn't mean he did it, it simply means that someone made an accusation and they believed what that person said and THEY found him guilty. With that comes a ban within their rules, not the court's rules, he's not going to jail.
Alberto and his team may be in the process of filing charges against the accuser, who knows? Maybe the accuser took a polygraph test and passed and Alberto didn't, or vice versa, we don't know!
If nothing was brought to the Prosecutor's Office to decide if there's a case against Salazar that's worth prosecuting, a sexual assault case, I'd be very curious as to why not. A lot of you guys/gals don't seem to be, but a sexual assault charge has a police report involved that then goes to the Prosecutor's Office.
If no one involved filed a police report on a guy this well-known, I'd be very suspicious. Again, a lot of you posters aren't as you've clearly got hatred for the guy, almost like a personal vendetta. I'm Switzerland, I don't like or hate the guy, I don't know him. But with a sexual assault charge, someone had to have filed a report somewhere.
The Statute of Limitations in Florida is 3 years for rape, 3 years or else your accusations cannot be prosecuted, period, end of story----and that's for rape!
When did this allegedly happen? Who knew? Who filed a police report?
I don't work for Nike and have never been to Oregon in my life, so you can rest up on the Nike Shill stuff, it's childish.
A huge lack of information for people to say he's guilty or not. A Prosecutor would be very, very hesitant to bring up charges on someone who has been in contact with dozens and dozens of athletes and ends up with only one accuser and no witnesses...and possibly a disgruntled runner with an ax to grind??? I don't know and either do any of you.

How can he be convicted as there was not trial and he did not get to defend himself?
P.s. Please excuse any typos. I typed that fast as I'm going out the door running, but I just had to respond to this thread as it's really "out there".

Thanks wejo.
You might want to correct "News of Salazar’s permanent ban came two days before Christmas"; that permanent ban was already announced in the summer 2021.
See for example from July 2021:
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/26/sports/olympics/alberto-salazar-ruled-ineligible.htmlAlberto Salazar Is Permanently Barred From Track for Sexual and Emotional Misconduct
I also disagree with your points 1 + 2 + 5, but that's a matter of opinion.

Why do you keep saying no charges were filed, as if you have a clue either way? Pointless to speculate about something like this without more details -- and your claim that prosecutors would ignore an allegation unless someone's a serial rapist is stupid. Not sure why you brought up Florida's laws, either.

Anyone who wondered in multiple older threads late last Fall as to what “sexual misconduct” he was accused of committing or finding the definition and use of that term by SafeSport a reach should have a clear and compelling answer now. The action itself may be alleged, not proven behind a reasonable doubt in a criminal court, but the alleged act most certainly justifies being described as sexual misconduct or worse.
I agree. I was one of those who vigorously objected to the ban for what seemed at the time like overzealous coaching of the fat-shaming variety. I defended on the merits. But I was always clear, I believe, to add a caveat. These new revelations invoke the hell out of the caveat. What is being alleged is actual sexual assault, and is criminally actionable.
The story has just taken on a much darker cast indeed. No defense from me. This story will continue to develop, I'm sure.
"If this happened why weren't the police involved?"
Really? You all know the majority of sexual assaults aren't even reported to police let alone prosecuted.
I knew a woman in college who passed out on a night out. Her friends went for help and in the 30 seconds they left her (bad move) a total stranger ten years older than her took her out of the bar saying she was his girlfriend, took her to his hotel. She woke up to him raping her. When the dude went to the bathroom she ran out the room in her underwear and got front desk to call for help.
Dude got arrested, rape kit administered, eye witness statements of the guy taking an unconscious woman from the club, hotel staff and cctv footage. All of it.
She didn't press charges. Cops told her how it took 3 years for the case to work through the system and how she'd be cross examined etc. She was an international student and her parents didn't support her, said it was her fault that it happened. She didn't know if she'd even still be in the city/country in 3 years and hated the thought of having to fly in. She was already traumatized and didn't feel strong enough to have it dominate the next 3 years of her life.
It was as clear cut a case - stranger raping unconscious teenager with hard evidence and lots of witnesses throughout evening, and the woman didn't feel safe supporting the charges.
Now imagine how someone might feel if it was one of the most famous coaches in your sport, who is also kinda your boss, backed by a multibillion $ company. You don't have witnesses, you don't have a rape kit to provide DNA evidence or anything because it was "just a finger." Yes, I could definitely understand how someone wouldn't rush to the police with that. I could see them just trying to keep their head down and make sure they run well and aren't reduced.

It's very very likely that the person that was inappropriately touched doesn't (didn't) want a public record of this. Most people that have been victims of sexual assault feel shame and embarrassment even when they did nothing to provoke the assault.

Yeah well, when you're going to stick your finger up sometimes orifice while giving them a massage you don't usually shout "Hey guys and gals gather round and watch this."
That gymnastics coach supposedly did so for years in front of parents and lots of other witnesses.
Nobody said anything for years
It is also possible that the victim flirted with Alberto not because she necessarily wanted anything to develop but because maybe she just thought it was harmless and she may have perceived that her livelihood was at stake. The complexity of the relationship does not exonerate one from sexual assault. I have flirted with many people I had no interest in sexual contact with. This is common.

A lifetime ban was announced prior to year end, but it was not necessarily permanent as an appeal was available/underway.
